For people that walk more than 4 dogs at a time whether this is for business or because you own more than 4 dogs the maximum you will be allowed ro walk in Reigate and Banstead is 4. Noone is sure who the people were that were surveyed as this is the first that most people have heard about it.
It’s disappointing that the irresponsible actions of some have made this decision necessary. However, it is the right thing in order to protect our most faithful companions and those around them across our area. Grateful to Hannah & officers at RBBC for the considered way in which they’ve approached this issue.
🐶 Revised dog controls in Reigate & Banstead to limit dog walkers to four dogs 🐶
Today a new borough-wide rule, limiting a dog walker to four dogs, has been introduced by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, following a review of its dog public space protection orders (PSPOs).
Reducing the number of dogs a person can walk at any one time from six to four received support from eight out of ten survey respondents (out of a total of 492). The change was proposed following ongoing concerns raised by residents about dog walkers being able to control groups of dogs.
The limit of four is recommended by the RSPCA (England & Wales) and pet business insurers.
A five-week public consultation, which took place last autumn, received 561 responses and showed high levels of support for the existing borough-wide PSPOs. More than 92% of the 513 responses agreed that dogs must be kept under control on a lead in designated dogs-on-lead areas or if asked by an authorised officer and that dog walkers are responsible for clearing up after dog fouling.
Existing orders for some specified areas, such as parks, playgrounds and recreation areas, where dogs are either not allowed or must be on a lead, will also be renewed, along with the introduction of some new areas:
New play areas in Westvale Park, Horley, will be dog exclusion areas.
The area of Earlswood Lakes where dogs will need to be kept on a lead has been extended to include the grassed area to the west of the lower lake up to the footpath leading from the carpark.
Dog PSPOs give the police and Council powers to issue fixed penalty notices to anyone responsible for a dog that they reasonably believe is in breach of the PSPO.
Signage is being updated across the Borough and in open spaces where dog-on-lead orders are present. This allows the Joint Enforcement Team to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to dog owners or walkers who do not adhere to the imposed orders.
Cllr Hannah Avery Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services said:
“We want everyone to be able to enjoy walking about the borough or visiting our parks and play areas, whether they have a dog or not. These PSPOs will help us to balance the needs of all, including the many responsible dog owners and their dogs that rely on our beautiful green spaces.”
Full information about the dog PSPOs can be found on the Council’s website, along with a report on the consultation findings - www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/dogs-pspo.

Super proud of how Kito reacted to a 6 month old puppy that came to visit on Sunday. The puppy screamed when he saw Kito, after all kito's head was as big as he was! Once he had got used to Kito the puppy started to goad him by doing play bows and running up to him in a playful manner, however the minute Kito engaged and ran towards him he screamed again and ran away. After a while they settled down and even went out for a walk together. Kito wasn't phased by this manic, barking unpredictable puppy, he didn't bark at him and was relaxed the whole time.
Puppies at 6 months don't know how to read another dog and he could have sparked off Kito's excitement and it could have ended up with the puppy being really scared. Kito helped the situation by only engaging when the puppy initiated it, otherwise he was just content to being with us and settling down.
Understanding the body language when 2 dogs initially meet is so important. It can be a tiny lip curl, ear movement or body freeze that would indicate the dog was uncomfortable. By giving them lots of space and being g outside so either dog had options to move away is so important on a first meet. It won't always go well and make take a few meet ups to get them used to each other. For the puppy as he moves into adolescence and his second fear phase he may not be as confident next time or he may be over confident and push his luck to far , so each meeting will be supervised

Morning everyone, hope you've had a great Easter.
We had an eventful weekend with Kito managing to fracture my index finger, by crushing my hand against the breakfast bar and the top of his rather large head. Saturday morning was spent at Caterham Dene getting it looked at whilst my hubby managed to shut himself out of our house. I had to jump in the car and try and get home and back to the hospital before my name was called out. Luckily I made it in time.
What injuries have you sustained from your dog?
I love fitting harness I get to meet some great dogs and owners. Here is 13 week old Coco sporting a 20mm purple harness. She was very cute and well behaved
I work a lot with reactive dogs and one of the best things we can do is to help cope with being at a safe distance to other dogs or People and see if you can get them to train and have fun whilst being in the same field. environment,
We have created a 6 week reactive dog course running out of Home Farm in Dorking. It starts on Saturday April 13th at 1pm and includes support and also a 30 minute assessment so we can make sure your dog is suitable for the course. We only have 4 dogs at a time and the field is 5 acres so plenty of space if your dog struggles.
We will teach you about body language and give you coping mechanisms to help when you're out and about.

Introduction - is for those that have never tried it before
Beginners - once you have done the introduction
Progression - for those that can put a sequence together
Agility
Fun-damentals - learning all the foundation skills that you need to complete an agility course
Yesterday we took Kito to a Mantrailing progression at Ranmore Common in Dorking. We had completed the one day introduction class in January and Kito had done really well at tracking the missing person, but didn't get that excited about finding them!
This time our fab training Diane asked the trail layer (missing person) to leave whilst Kito was watching and wind him up a bit. This was incredible successful as he was so much more excited once he had found Maeve.
We had a lot of fun and Kito was flat out for the afternoon. We can't wait to this again.
If you would like to give this ago we have one space left on the introduction day on April 7th or more availability on May 5th. We run the Introduction workshop on the first Sunday of every month and then you can book onto our progression sessions which are held on the 2nd Sunday of the month

Yesterday we had or final check-in call from Dogs Walk this way rescue as we have had Kito for 3 months now and whilst he's still a very stronger puller on the lead and a flight risk, he is still a fabulous goofy boy.
Don't get me wrong there are still a number of things we need to work on such as going into kangaroo mode when we he knows it's time to go out, meal times and if we are out and have to leave via a closed door and he has a hatred of Foxes and loves to chase squirrels, none of these are helped by the fact that they still come into the garden and almost goad him whilst he's looking out of the window, but we are getting there and he is only 2 years old.
On the plus side, he can be left on his own now for a few hours and chooses to sleep downstairs and only comes to us if he needs to go out or it's breakfast time and we have dared to sleep in!
He is brilliant with other dogs and backs of if they aren't happy with him being near. He just wants to say hello and if they are up for a little play he will oblige, which is great for Kito but poor hubby is on the end of the longline being dragged around
He will make a fabulous Pets as Therapy dog as he loves to be touched and have belly rubs. He's been to visit mum twice and I was so proud of his last visit when we were asked to pop in and see the lady in the room next door and he was so calm and allowed her to stroke him. The room was full of relatives but he managed to keep still and cope.
We have taken him Mantrailing, which he was great at tracking the person and we are going out again this weekend.
We still have a way to go, but we are really grateful that he has come into our lives. Attached is a photo of me being pinned down on the settee, which has become a regular nighttime occurrence, he makes a great hot water bottle
I stock and fit the Perfect Fit Harness. It has a clip at the front and back and can help give you some control when your dog pulls. The harness is in 3 parts and each part comes in different sizes so you get a better fit than if you buy a small, medium. large or XL harness for a shop.
I prefer to come to you for the fitting as your dog is normally more settled as long as you are within 10miles of Redhill or they may be a small charge.
Harness costs:
15mm £39 - small size dogs
20mm £44 - Medium & some large breeds
40mm £55 - Large dogs & dogs that like to pull
I also sell the perfect fit 2m double ended lead, which comes in matching colours

Does anyone have a new puppy or know of anyone else who does?
At Best Pup Academy we are always looking to improve and expand what we can offer.
After discussions, we realised that the part of a dog's life we don't get to help with much at the moment is that stage from BEFORE they arrive home until they are ready for Puppy School.
So, we have an exciting new project to rectify this. If anyone is getting a puppy or knows anyone that is - give us a shout.
