Does the name R.E.Collins mean anything to anybody? At Innis Chapel there is a brief history of this former Bible Christian Chapel entitled 'Lanterns on the Moors' written by R.E.Collins and we are looking to find out some information about this person

Who were the Bible Christians? What is their legacy for Cornish culture and identity? How did Cornish members of the denomination operate at a global level? These are just some of the questions to be explored in a study led by the Institute of Cornish Studies of the fascinating if sometimes neglected story of the Bible Christians founded in 1815 by William Bryant, a Cornishman originally from Gunwen in rural mid-Cornwall. A volume on the subject is being launched in September 2017 as part of the Cornish Studies series. We are also keen to document the story of former Bible Christian chapels and this platform provides an opportunity to collect information, put up any old or new photographs and promote news on cultural and historical events relating to the group and its members.

Welcome to a site that explores the history of the Bible Christians! The initials B.C. appear on many old chapels in rural Cornwall and North Devon and are clues to the rich history of the Bible Christians since their foundation in 1815. This was a radical group that even by the 1820s was promoting the involvement of female preachers. Feel free to use this site to promote a greater knowledge of this denomination founded by William Bryant of Gunwen near the iconic landmark of Helman Tor
