Kilkari, an m-health service created by BBC Media Action saved nearly 14,000 lives and contributed to higher use of modern, reversible contraceptive methods by women in India - particularly among poorer families.

Women who listened to at least 50% of Kilkari’s messages were 25% more likely to know they could ask community health workers questions about family planning; for men, this was 27%.

In 2014, Kilkari was scaled up nationally with support from the Government of India, Gates Foundation India, USAID - US Agency for International Development and Barr Foundation.

Water is a vital shared resource and one of the global commons, so individual actions matter as much as our collective actions. To safeguard water from faecal contamination, septic tanks must be desludged before reaching capacity and overflowing. By doing so, you contribute to preserving the safety of water, an increasingly scarce and precious commodity with each passing day.
We are the BBC’s international charity
We use the power of media to change society and inspire and support individuals in need.
Presently, we are working on the areas of sanitation, economic empowerment of women and greater social acceptance of waste pickers. Our current projects are supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the H&M Foundation
