Progress on the new play area at Coate Water is nearing completion!

Below are some images of the park, which now has the brand-new play equipment installed.

The play park will be as inclusive and accessible as possible so it can be enjoyed by all children from across Swindon and beyond.

It includes:
• a wheelchair roundabout
• swings, one of which is wheelchair accessible
• in-ground trampolines
• nine-platform multi-play unit
• sensory bells and wind chimes

ESP Play Parks have been working hard to build the new play park over the last few weeks and will be close to finishing over the next month.

Funding for this play area was secured from local developer contributions.

In England, one in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2021, a huge increase from one in nine in 2017. That’s around five children in every classroom.

Our Youth Engagement team work closely with young people with mental health problems, and their families, to give them the support they need.

When Jack was 15, he was struggling to manage his emotions, he had gone missing several times, was self-harming and had taken an overdose. Although originally very resistant, he began to build trust with his Youth Engagement worker and eventually started to open up about his emotions and feelings, and developed ways he could communicate his needs and keep himself safe in the community. After working with his support worker, he stopped going missing from his family and his self-harming stopped completely.

Jack said: “I always felt listened to and they always did what they said they would, they helped me feel safer.”

Social care provides a lifeline to people in our community, including young people like Jack. To find out more about what how we support adults and children across Swindon, visit our website: http://ow.ly/zhsS50JkYJ0
