EMOTIONAL EATING is something many of us struggle with. When ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐Ÿ˜ž hits or emotions run high, we might find ourselves reaching for that bag of crips, some chocolate or a tub of ice cream. It's a common way to soothe ourselves, and thatโ€™s all well and good, except when it leads us to being unhappy with our weight or health. And yoga is something that we can explore as an alternative.

Yoga isnโ€™t just about twisting yourself into pretzels or becoming ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ณ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ. Itโ€™s a holistic practice that connects your ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ, ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜†, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜. ๐Ÿง˜ When you practice yoga, you learn to be present in the moment and tune into your bodyโ€™s signals. This awareness helps you recognise when youโ€™re eating out of emotion rather than hunger. So, the next time you feel the urge to snack, take a few deep breaths, and ask yourself, โ€œAm I really hungry, or am I trying to soothe an emotion?โ€

One of the primary reasons we turn to food is stress. Yoga is a fantastic STRESS RELIEVER! The combination of movement, ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ , and meditation helps reduce cortisol levels (the stress hormone) in your body. Try incorporating a gentle yoga routine or even a few simple poses into your daily schedule. Youโ€™ll be amazed at how much calmer and centred you feel.

Yoga also helps balance your emotions by promoting the release of ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€, the feel-good hormones. When youโ€™re feeling down or anxious, instead of reaching for comfort food, roll out your yoga mat. Even a short session can lift your spirits and give you a better perspective on your emotions.

Certain yoga poses can actually aid digestion and help regulate your appetite. "Picture yourself with a historic house on the Promenade des Anglais, Nice, with a spectacular view. You have a wonderful third husband, and a full life. You've overcome major tragedy, including the death of your child, and other significant adversity, including addictions.

It sounds idyllic.

Except you look at the Mediterranean sea across from your home and you feel such self-loathing, because of your weight, that you just want to throw yourself into the water and never emerge again.

Every time you look in the mirror, you see a beast and wonder where the attractive, slim younger woman has gone. The self-hatred knows no bounds.

You chastise yourself 24/7 for having "let yourself go", for your lack of self-discipline and for the many failed attempts at yo yo dieting.

You feel enormous shame, especially as you've achieved so much in the past - yet this is one issue that you seemingly just can't crack.

This was my story - until fate brought me Clair at the end of January 2024.
I couldn't take another day of feeling this way.

Traditional therapy had also failed me - I've even trained in psychotherapy myself. I was sinking into major depression.

I began to overeat 22 years ago, after I met my husband, Peter. Although a wonderful man, he came with much toxic baggage.

Having already given up alcohol in 1997, I began to self-medicate with food. I ate my feelings every time a drama kicked off with his "baggage" and this scenario was endless.

I signed up for Clair's introductory free sessions in January and was immediately impressed and inspired by her.

Not only does she "talk the talk" but she continues to "walk the walk". Clair has overcome her own overeating issues and is one of the kindest, most compassionate, patient people I've ever encountered.

I'd truly felt that I was a hopeless case. I decided to sign up for some private coaching with Clair and it's the best investment I've ever made in myself.

Not only have I lost almost a stone in a short period of time WITHOUT DIETING - but her coaching helps me in other areas of my life, such as my writing career, where I'd become completely blocked.

I'm no longer obsessed with food.

I have an active social life; I travel and yet I continue to lose weight slowly but steadily.

I'm no longer terrified of the scales either. It used to be absolute torture weighing myself. Now I just consider the numbers on the scale as data. I'm not affected by the number if it's going "the wrong way".

Working with Clair is completely changing my mindset around food.

I always suspected that my eating problem centred between my ears. But that knowledge didn't give me the power to halt the downward spiral into weight hell, charging towards type 2 Diabetes - and worse!

I'm also part of a fantastic Face Book community run by Clair, which is very supportive.

We're all in this together!

There's no longer any need for self-isolation.

We aspire to be as honest as we can be and to support each other in the group.
The identification with others is healing.

My first 13 weeks of private coaching ends in 2 weeks and I've decided to carry on with Clair privately for another 13 sessions.

Beyond that, I intend to always stay connected to Clair and to her community.
I feel so much better about myself emotionally and physically and although I still have a long way to go in terms of getting to the weight I'd like to be, I now am reconnecting with my "old self" and am enjoying frequent flashes of recognition of who I truly am.

I can't recommend Clair highly enough.

I'm 65 and am excited about the future.

My self-confidence is growing, and possibilities are opening up.

I'm so very grateful to Clair. I'm no longer putting my life on hold until I'm slim.
