Iceland 2024 🇮🇸 ➡️ 🏴
We are back on Scottish soil. We had a brief stop at Perth and are aiming to arrive at Alness Academy at 7pm.
It's been a great trip and the pupils have been credit to the school and their families. The pupils will be in touch with exact arrival times as we pass Aviemore on the A9. 🚌

Day 4
Today was our last day in Iceland before we set off for a long day of travelling tomorrow. Our first stop was to Reykjavik, the capital city. Pupils enjoyed a couple of hours free time to explore the sights, restaurants and shops 🛍️.
Our second stop of the day was to the Hverageroi Geothermal Park to see some hot springs. We also visited the Shake House, a simulator of the 2008 6.3 earthquake. Pupils weren’t phased by the simulator, same can’t be said for the teachers…
Finally, pupils embarked on a hike at Reykjadalur. After 1 hour of walking, we enjoyed dipping our feet into the naturally heated river near the top. Pupils demonstrated great resilience despite the challenging conditions! ⛰️ They were treated to a well deserved hot chocolate afterwards. ☕️
Tomorrow will involve a very early start for Team Alness as we travel home to enjoy the rest of the summer holidays. We hope the Icelandic weather does not follow us!! 🌧️ ✈️

Day 3
Another busy day for Team Alness in Iceland. Our first stop of the day took us to the impressive Skogafoss waterfall. Unfortunately, we didn’t find the pot of gold that’s supposedly at the base of the waterfall. Afterwards, we headed to the Solheimajokull outlet glacier. 🧊
The weather took a turn to the worse so we decided to head to Vik to escape the rain and a wee stop at the beach🏖️. The next stop took us to Reynisfjara. Teachers told pupils to proceed to the beach with caution because of the slightly dangerous “sneaker waves” that can occur. Miss MacDonald x2 failed to follow their own instructions…🌊
The final stops took us to Dryholaey, where we saw many puffins 🐦. Finally, we headed to the Seljalandfross waterfall which had a footpath behind the falls!
Another busy day complete.

Day 2
After a chaotic breakfast this morning, we set off to the Secret Lagoon for our first stop of the day. 🌡️
Second stop brought us to the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall. The scenic background for many future instagram posts 📸. Third stop of the day took us to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where we saw boiling water shooting up into the sky (to a height of 20-40 metres!).
After a short break for some ice cream at the Efsti-dalur, we headed to our final stop of the day to Thingvellir National Park. The rain didn’t dampen our spirits at this spectacular sight!

Day 1
After an early start this morning, we made our way down to Glasgow airport and eventually out to Iceland this afternoon. ✈️
We visited the Bridge between continents and the Gunnuhver Hot Springs on the Reykjanes Peninsula. We are now en route to the guest house for dinner and a well earned rest! 💤
We hope our P7 pupils had a fantastic last day in their primary school🥳
We can’t wait to meet you on 20th August as our new S1’s 😊🌈❤️
Awards(Link below) - On Thursday 13 June Alness Academy held their annual awards ceremony to recognise the academic achievement of the pupils. The audience were treated to some amazing musical performances by very talented pupils. On the night, a special mention must go to Aleksandra Olesinska who was awarded the Dux Medal for top academic performance closely followed by Lily McFadzean winning the Proxime Accessit. The evening was closed by saying a fond fair well to our departing S6 pupils and closing remarks from our Captains. We could not issue all awards on the night so awards assemblies were held this week to hand out the remaining awards.
Reminder…..
School closes for our summer break at 12:25pm tomorrow (Thursday)
