Rice PR
Communication At Work Rice PR adds value to business by shining a light on what it does best.
If anyone on the verge of action should judge himself according to the outcome, he would never begin. Even though the result may gladden the whole world, that cannot help the hero; for he knows the result only when the whole thing is over, and that is not how he became a hero, but by virtue of the fact that he began. ~Søren

The Post Office Scandal & the importance of ethics in crisis comms'
"Any business (and I mean any) can experience a reputational blow. It usually comes from a place you don’t expect it at a time that is especially bad and in a way that climbs into the pit of your stomach and makes a home.
"However, getting under the skin of the organisation, C-Suite down, can majorly help you understand yourself in your weakest moments - and, crucially, bounce back.
"Which is why ensuring you have done The Work and repeated it regularly is essential for a healthy, transparent and successful relationship building exercise when times are good and bad," - Rice PR Director Sarah Rice.
The Post Office scandal & the importance of ethics in crisis comms — RICE PR Crisis communication can be made much easier if you build trust through an ethical approach to business behaviours.
Wishing you and yours a relaxing festive season filled with love and compassion.
Looking forward to seeing you in 2024 💫

Did you know the World Economic Forum considers four areas of progress when benchmarking the global gender gap?
They are:
1 - Economic Participation and Opportunity
2 - Educational Attainment
3 - Health and Survival
4 - Political Empowerment
Women have nearly caught up on number 2 & 3 at around 95% the same as men.
For number 1 - work and money - women are at about 60% the same men (it's gone marginally backward globally in the last year).
For number 4 - making decisions that shape our world in the houses of state - women stand at 22% representation.
The WEF benchmarking has been in place since 2006 and you can read the 2023 report here: https://www.weforum.org/reports/global-gender-gap-report-2023/
Across all areas, there is still a way to go.
✅ Which is why we talk about gender equality in 2023.
✅ It is why it's fantastic when organisations like the Bristol Women in Business Charter and Bristol Women's Commission are given airtime.
✅ It is how we create solutions for employers to access support to change the status quo.
✅ And it is (crucially) why all of us, women and men, must ensure more women are 'in the room' when decisions are made about the future of our planet and our people.
Thank you to Sandra Gordon, Kristal McNamara, Sarah Byfield and Sonia Cohen for creating this amazing Charter here in Bristol.
here we come ...

Bristol women campaign for gender equality workplaces They hope to make Bristol the first "gender-balanced" city in the UK.
Following on from an incredible Bristol Women in Business Charter event last week, it's fantastic to hear Charter Director Sandra Gordon make the case for equality in the workplace on BBC Radio Bristol today.
Bristol has a real chance of becoming the UK's first gender equal city and the Charter provides tangible, accountable and supportive ways for businesses of all sizes to make this a reality.
Thanks to the ever-brilliant John Darvall and ace producer Carolyn Milford for getting involved.

This is a great report SO in the right direction by the PRCA 👏👏👏
The PR industry has taken too long to admit to its role in how damaging some of the 'reputation management' based on 'relationship management' has been over the years.
There has always been a deep paradox that sits at the heart of the idea of relationship management: any relationship that is 'managed' by one or more powerful forces is naturally unhealthy.
Opening doors and letting groups come together to co-create for the benefit of all, rather than only be seen as a dollar sign is where we need to move to as practitioners.
While, of course, some information needs to be protected, closed door reputation management can be seriously toxic for not just us in societal terms, but for the planet overall.
A great book on this is 'Paradox in Public Relations: A Contrarian Critique of Theory and Practice by Kevin Stoker, Director of UNLV UNLV Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
It is a small but mighty book that everyone in PR needs to read right now - along with this report: https://lnkd.in/ebZ4A7-b
"Increasingly offices are a way of sparking new ideas and, arguably more importantly, living and breathing company culture.
"HR is still having to wrestle with work patterns and second-guessing employee behaviour, but they’re also starting to see the long-term value of their workspaces as a signpost toward employee benefits again.”
Some thoughts as part of a panel discussion on the future of the workplace with the crew at Paramount in their, quite frankly, incredible offices on harbouside.
Thanks amazing chairing Chris Ward from SWBI and for being insightful and fun fellow panelists Kevin Mashford, Helen Bartlett, Tom Ponting, Isla Robertson and Ben White.

'EYE CATCHING HEADLINE HERE' 👀 - five top tips for businesses looking to win at PR & content strategy in 2023.
1) Talent! The world of work has undergone a paradigm shift & a recessive economy will see talent moving in unpredictable ways. Employer brand and reputation will impact revenue - so get your EVP sorted asap. We are DNA are a great place to start.
2) Impact! You will do this by keeping marketing snappy. Goldfish have a bigger attention span than humans right now, tailor accordingly.
3) Purpose! Simon Sinek has SO MUCH to answer for - but purpose is still big news (and ties in to point one v well) Given Agency are your people here & their new podcast is 👌🏼 ✅
4) Automation! In comms - esp digital marketing is coming big time with an even greater expansion. Get advice from people who really know about this arena to use it with wisdom and integrity.
5) Relationships! We'll also be getting hyper-personal. In-person events will make a major comeback and - in PR - building real relationships with journalists and influencers will create long term impact. Think 'exclusive' rather than mass market under embargo when sending out news. Experienced PRs are invaluable here.

Organisational behaviour matters more than it ever did when hiring all generations - but importantly - Gen Z.
This is particularly relevant around how people from different cultural and social backgrounds are hired and represented and if decisions being made at the heart of business are good for the planet.
