We held a hugely successful Year 6 careers fair this week.

A variety of professionals gave up their valuable time to talk to our children about what their job involves.
The children learnt about what skills and attributes are needed to be a Doctor, Midwife, Police Officer, 999 Call Handler, Research Scientist, Solider, Dentist, Shoe Fitter and a Business Owner.

The children spoke confidently and articulately to each of the professionals, asking them the questions in their careers booklets. We were hugely impressed at how curious and interested they were in what they were learning.

The value of the month for June has been aspiration and this was a lovely way to bring it to a close.

Following the session, the children created posters to reflect on what they had learnt and discussed what they would like to be as they grow up.

Over the past 3 years, Larkhill Primary School have been completing the Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening. It sets out a 5 Level Award to develop the confidence and understanding of children in the garden environment. We have recently achieved the Level 4 Award, which focused on wildlife and using the garden to support the curriculum. It has a main element of sharing within the school community and the wider community. To achieve this, we have held the big soup and used our produce and school site to cook soup to share, also using our school Pupil Parliament children as leaders. We have linked the garden through a variety of cross curricular links such as science, art and technology.

Alongside this the school garden has been used by the community to help us grow through the holidays, after school clubs, inset training, Father's Day pizza celebrations, holiday clubs, staff socials, as a showcase site for Happy Grow Lucky. Our children at Larkhill understand the main objective of growing and the use of the garden. Their sessions are child led, taking in the principles of Forest School they are continually developing new ideas and being creative with the environment. With insect houses, digging areas, wildflower chill out zones and creative cane toppers! (table tennis balls) It has been a pleasure to witness the impact on the children and whole staff since the start. We need to aim for the final Award Level 5!

We are extremely excited to announce that our 2024 PTA Summer Fete will be going ahead!

Last year's event was a huge success, which raised an incredible £678 for our pupils and we are hoping this year will raise even more! It will be a day of fun and games, with an incredible raffle for you to take part in too. As well as our own games and events, we will be joined by caterers and small businesses, and lots of other entertainment will be available too!

Donation Requests:

Second Hand Uniform Stall - We are hoping to hold a second hand uniform stall, giving everyone the opportunity to purchase school uniform at low prices for those ever growing children. We will only be selling school uniform with our school logo. If you have any uniform which is in good condition that you would be willing to donate, please bring it in to school before June 14th.

Bottle Tombola - This is always a great stall and we need your help to fill it! We are asking for donations of new/unopened bottles towards the tombola. This can be bottles of anything you like - alcohol, shampoo, sauces etc. Please can all donations be brought to the school office or into classrooms by June 14th.

Car Boot Sale
If you would like to hold a car boot sale at this event, please email [email protected] to book your space! Pre-booking is essential.

Stallholders
We are looking for local small businesses to join us and sell their wares! If you own a small business and would like to sell your product at our Summer Fete, please email [email protected] to book your space.

Vendors/Caterers
We already have some great vendors and caterers lined up to join us, but you can never have too much choice! Please share our poster far and wide to generate interest, and if you know any vendors/caterers who may be able to join us please ask them to email [email protected] to discuss this.

Volunteers
Our PTA are wonderful and work extremely hard to put together fun events for our school community, but they cannot do it alone. We are looking for volunteers who can join us on the day to run stalls or games. If you are available and would like to help out on the day, please call the school office to discuss this with Mrs Ball. Helping out on the day does not mean you are committing to helping the PTA on a permanent basis, but if you can lend 4 hours of your time to this event it would help immensely!

We are well underway with all of the necessary plans and can't wait to see you there!

We have had some very exciting new arrivals this week. Our PTA kindly purchased some eggs from the "Living Eggs Project" and reception class have been looking after them and learning about lifecycles. There has been much excitement as we have watched them hatch and we now have nine very fluffy little chicks with one more on the way. This has been such a magical learning experience for our children. Mr Papp our caretaker is going to be adopting the chickens and looking after them on the school site so that the children can enjoy them and watch them grow.
