The promotion and protection of public health and public safety, by promoting and encouraging walking as a means of transport, mobility and recreation, promoting the safety of the walking public, and promoting improvements to the comfort and general amenities of the walking public and the environment experienced by the walking public.

Theme #2 of Walk21 Kigali is ‘Planning for walking in low-income neighbourhoods’.

Over 60% of the Africans live in low-income neighbourhoods. is often their primary transport mode, despite poor infrastructure.

Safe walking infrastructure allows households the choice to live, work and bring kids to school locally, and can move safely around their cities.

Africa has only 3% of the world’s registered vehicles, but 20% of global road traffic deaths.

Last week, we handed over the PATH Open Letter to national delegations at the climate summit.

Many thanks to Minister of Environment of The Netherlands Vivianne Heijnen for receiving the letter 🤝

Over 400 organisations signed the letter.

As part of the PATH Partnership for Active Travel and Health, we called for more investments in active travel.

Walking and cycling are a quick, reliable and affordable solution to reduce transport emissions. It brings many other benefits: liveable neighbourhoods safer streets, less congestions and healthier people.
