Hello everyone! I have had an influx of followers the past few weeks so thought I would reintroduce myself whilst I’m having a mini break before our September term begins!👋

My name is Jade and I am the owner of The Story Tent Wirral! I am a former primary school teacher who left the profession before the summer this year, this is the first September I’ve not been back to the classroom in 7 years! It feels super weird but it is SO amazing to not feel anxious and feel excited about my job for the first time in a LONG time! 🥳

From my teaching career I have lots of experience working with families of different backgrounds and children with different needs! I do private tuition for KS1 children a few hours a week and have previously taught some drama clubs too! ✨

I am Welsh but lived in Manchester for 7 years whilst studying and then stayed there to pursue my teaching career. I moved back to North Wales 3 years ago and I live my lovely husband and 15 month old little boy, Rupert. 🫶🏻

I love to read (favourite author being Lindsey Kelk), bake, try my hand at any craft despite never being that great at any, going to the theatre and I’m a big music fan! (Still crying about not securing Oasis tickets!) 🥲

I chose to take a step away from classroom teaching to run Story Tent classes, passion for reading sessions in schools and the occasional party due to the desire to still work with young people whilst having a much better work life balance. My main goal is to spread the love of reading in our community and to also spend more quality time with my little boy! 📚

Thank you SO much for joining the waiting lists for our Spooky Specials this October! I am happy to announce that booking is NOW OPEN to those on the waiting lists! The Story Tent Wirral first term ✅

I cannot believe that our 4 week August term is complete! What an amazing 4 weeks it has been travelling around Kenya, Australia, China & France with you all and Story Tent Ted!! 🌍

We had another fabulous week this week in France and I have loved every second getting to know all of my lovely story tent families more and meeting some more new faces! I cannot thank those of you enough who have joined me for 4 weeks over the summer or for a 2 week trial. I appreciate you putting your trust in me and my brand new venture and I really hope you’ve all made the most wonderful memories with your little loves! I am having a well deserved week off next week whilst you all settle back into your routines ready for our Autumn term to begin on Tuesday the 10th September for 6 weeks! Firstly I’d like to thank you all SO much for joining the waiting lists for the Spooky Specials, I have been blown away by the interest and I anticipate that the majority of sessions will sell out before general release! 🥹

This week we will be travelling to China and reading The Magic Paintbrush by Julia Donaldson 🇨🇳🖌️✨

The story follows a young girl called Shen as she is gifted a magic paintbrush and uses it for good in her village until the evil emperor tries to get her to create some money for him. She eventually escapes and creates a beautiful street party for her village! 🪄

What opportunities will your little one have from attending The Story Tent Wirral?👇🏻

Imaginative Play- during our storytelling session we always have activities where we need to use our imagination to be different characters or pretend that we are in a certain place! There are also opportunities for this during the free play part of the session in the sensory trays! This part is ALWAYS child led.💭

Free Movement and Gross Motor- I get lots of messages asking whether your children will have to sit still for the whole session. The answer is of course NO! I know myself how hard getting little ones to stay still is that’s why the storytelling parts are in small snippets throughout the session and even during those if your little one wants to be on their feet, sat by me at the front or sat in their tent they are absolutely ok to do so! Some weeks we practice our hop, skip, jumping and crawling with big kit and other weeks we have a dance under the parachute and bubbles at the end! 🫧

Developing Listening Skills- your little ones will be developing their listening skills every day (even if you don’t think they are!!) I often give short instructions for you to echo to your children throughout the session and also there will be that one story that captivates your little ones attention! 📖

Sensory Play- every week we have 4 sensory stations to explore! There is always a water station, a play dough station, an imaginative play station and sometimes even a craft! These all have their own benefits which I will include in another post. 🎨

Socialising- in all of our sessions we welcome children from ages 6 months right up to 5 years old! This means that you can bring siblings and there are lots of opportunities to interact with others ages, we find the younger children learn through copying and our older children like modelling to the younger storytenters which is just gorgeous! 🗣️

This week we will be travelling to Australia and reading the lovely Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright! 🐨🇦🇺🎶

The thoughtful story follows a frightened little Koala who doesn’t want to get down from his branch in the tree as he is too anxious about the world below. When the branch eventually breaks the Koala quickly realises that he’s braver than he thought!🫶🏻

Our 2024/25 diary for Ed settings is getting very busy with passion for reading sessions, celebrations through storytelling and whole school reading for pleasure strategy support ❤️ - we are so glad so many schools are prioritising attitudes to reading and learning as a core part of their school improvement as well as engagement and inclusion in their EYFS and KS1 classes; all of us at The Story Tent feel extremely passionate about this as teachers and SEND professionals ourselves, and are so happy our sessions and support are contributing to this development.
