Metro Bank to enter shared ownership and limited company buy-to-let markets 20/07/2023

Metro Bank has upgraded its mortgage origination platform to streamline the process for mortgage intermediaries and provide the infrastructure to launch a series of products in the shared ownership and limited company buy-to-let markets.

The upgraded platform aims to significantly streamline the mortgage application process and deliver an enhanced user experience for mortgage intermediaries and their administration teams.

Intermediaries will now be able to request a day one valuation in more cases rather than wait for the initial underwriting process to be completed, if this is something their customer requires.

A number of SSAS trustees and investors lost significant sums of money after investing with some high profile property businesses in recent times.

Statements offering investors the opportunity to leverage money and generate strong returns hooked them in. Platforms and endorsements reinforced the "safety" of the investment in their eyes.

Robust due diligence that said investors may have carried out in other settings was bypassed.

Lessons from the past were lost! Folks were left devastated.

Ministers are considering a punitive scheme to fine landlords up to £30,000 if they fail to upgrade their properties to a minimum band C by an extended deadline of 2028 instead of the current 2025.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero had previously proposed a deadline of 2025 for newly-let rentals to achieve an energy performance rating of at least C, and a deadline of 2028 for all other rented properties.

Landlords are to be given more powers to evict unruly tenants who ruin neighbours’ lives through persistent noise or by being drunk and disorderly.

Although details are missing in the government’s statement, this would appear to be one of the few recent policy decisions to support the wishes of landlord trade bodies.

The devil will be in the detail, we'll certainly be watching closely.
