This resonates with everything I believe 😍😍 https://www.facebook.com/733299877/posts/10160321024674878/?sfnsn=scwspmo
One of my favourite mantras when working with groups of children, particularly where confidence or self esteem may have been an issue, is...
'It would be a grey old world if we were all the same!'
It can be so damaging when we are constantly compared to others. Wasn't it Einstein who said something along the lines of...'if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will always think itself a failure...?' And I'm no expert but I think Einstein was a fairly clever bloke!
Yes, yes and YES!!!!
I made some lovely Signs of Spring Spotter Sheets and a PowerPoint about the functions of the parts of a plant for the www.writesmarteducation.co.uk Resource Bank
I love the Spring time changes especially in the woodlands
Unfortunately someone very clever said this before me I'm afraid, but this is one of my favourite quotes!
The problem with a one size fits all education system is that....it actually doesn't!
Being spoon fed lots of facts just because someone in an office deems them to be 'important' does not constitute education in my view.
I will always be unashamedly passionate about education, and I believe wholeheartedly in the power of reading, writing and maths but I do not believe that deep learning occurs without ownership. As educators, it is our job to empower, enable, inspire and facilitate...not control and dominate.
Do you home educate your child?
Or perhaps you would like to support your child's learning and educational engagement?
As a teacher and Assistant headteacher with over 20 years experience and an MSc in Environmental Conservation, I have always been passionate about topic based learning, creativity and inclusion.
I believe that topic based learning can....
✅facilitate deeper learning experiences
✅encourage transferrable skills across subjects
✅provide purposeful opportunities for core subjects such as literacy and maths
✅encourage young people to pursue to their unique strengths and interests
✅engage and inspire learners
✅create more opportunities for experiential and hands-on learning
✅facilitate inclusion and cater to a range of learning styles and needs
✅build confidence and boost progress
I have created a whole host of creative, cross-curricular resources that I hope will inspire, enthuse, excite and engage young learners particularly through nature and the environment.
As an experienced teacher, being able to find a whole range of learning opportunities in a whole host of situations is my super power!🥰
A walk in the woods can provide one of the richest learning environments there is, along with the benefits to physical and mental wellbeing.🌳
I have created a FREE downloadable Woodland Topic Plan to give you ideas as to how you could create an engaging and exciting topic using all that your local woodland has to offer.✍

All too often children are assessed by what they cannot do rather than what they CAN do!

I've been working with this great new author for a few months now and we are almost ready to publish! Once it goes live you will be able to find it in my Hall of Fame on http://www.karenstanley-author.co.uk
It's a lovely book written in rhyme with some really beautiful illustrations that will spark young imaginations!
The amazing thing about modern technology is the ability to communicate across the globe! She was cooking her spag bol, I was in my pyjamas eating my cereal! I have just received this absolutely, lovely lady's manuscript to proof read and I will post more details soon. Suffice to say it's a kids book designed to help young people with dyslexia....can't wait! http://www.karenstanley-author.co.uk

I've said it before and I'll say it again...!
We ALL learn best when we are motivated, engaged and interested. it's not exactly rocket science 😂😍

We all need a helping hand some times 🥰
These are cute.
Roll a pine cone in lard or fat and then roll into birdseed. These look great hanging in a tree.
It couldn't be simpler than to thread up some tasty snacks and hang them in a tree.... a kind of bird kebab!
I love these environmentally friendly bird feeders made from toilet roll tubes. Simply coat the toilet roll in lard and then roll in birdseed and allow to set. If you are feeling creative you can use some twigs to add some little perches for the birds to rest on whilst they feed!
This month is the Big Garden Birdwatch month. There has never been a better time to get outside both for our physical and mental health. There is so much learning that can take place by just being in nature. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting some ideas for simple bird feeders that you can make to encourage our feathered friends to visit you and your children or pupils. These will work in a small backyard, a garden or on the balcony of a flat.
This is so simple, just a hollowed out grapefruit, orange, or small pumpkin filled with birdseed!
There is a whole page full of resources dedicated to birds and birdwatch on the writesmart website

We are all different, we all have different strengths, skills and passions...thank goodness for that!
