Tsukuru Judo Academy

Dear Players/Coaches/Parents/Friends.

Today it's with a heavy heart I am announcing the closure of Tsukuru Judo Academy after 12 1/2yrs.

Although ultimately the pandemic has forced the closure of our permanent Dojo within the Walnuts Leisure Centre, it has also given me time to evaluate and prioritise the needs of my work/life balance.

Like many other successful clubs, Tsukuru was built out of passion and the understanding of the many positive impacts I believe Judo provides. The name Tsukuru means "To construct and build, to develop character" which we have seen in many students, young and old.

I am greatful to everyone who has stepped foot into our Dojo and hopefully felt the passion I have for the sport and hopefully taken away some fantastic memories as have I.

On a positive note..

Roger and the coaching team would still very much like to continue developing players who are keen to carry on their Judo studies.

Harris Judo Club have invited all players and coaches to continue your practice at their venue, also based in Orpington, which is fantastic news for all you local athletes (No Excuses). Harris J C is a British Judo Affiliated member so the transition will be very easy if you already hold a BJA grade.

I met with Duncan from Harris JC yesterday to discuss our transition into the club and he,like I, is excited to see what the future holds.

This is Vilmos who is still very much a part of our Judo family although he now resides at home with his family in Hungary, where he continues to study. Vilmos has now achieved the grade of Green belt. These are great times for this awesome young man. Very well done. 👍💪

In the way of a quick update to where we are..

The Leisure is currently using the Dojo for spin classes until September, at least..

With this in mind we have been looking at a couple of alternatives in the hope we get get something sorted within the very near future.

Hi Rob ,

My Name is ..... and I am the operations manager at the Walnuts Leisure Centre . Unfortunately at the moment Mytime active are not in a position to bring back our hires at this point .

Due to social distancing measures our group exercise programmes have been put into other areas of the building so the dojo is currently not available for use .


We are hoping that once social distancing measures are removed we will then be able to welcome everyone back .

I am still awaiting confirmation of our final group exercise programme . Once I am in receipt of this I will be able to see if we can get any hirers back any sooner .
