Getting your dog ready for one of our ? 🐶

Here are 5 essential tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for your companion:

1️⃣ Socialise Your Pup: who are comfortable playing with others, both individually and in groups, will have a positive experience with our walkers. If your pup is new to group play, start with small groups and gradually introduce larger settings.

2️⃣ Work on and Cues: Ensure your dog responds well to commands. A strong recall is crucial for safety, and teaching them to sit and walk nicely on a leash will make interactions with our walkers more enjoyable.

3️⃣ : If crate time is part of your dog’s routine, ensure they are comfortable being in a crate. This helps them feel secure and relaxed during breaks.

4️⃣ Meet-and-Greet: Familiarise your dog with our walkers and the surroundings. A quick visit can help them feel comfortable and reduce any initial anxiety.

5️⃣ Understand Your Dog’s Needs: Not every dog enjoys group activities, and that’s okay. If your dog shows signs of stress, communicate with us to find the best solution. We aim to make each walk a positive experience tailored to your dog’s personality and preferences.

Ready to book a walk? Visit How I Met Your Dog and let’s make every walk a happy one! 🐾

Thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family? 🐾

Before you bring home that cute puppy or adorable rescue dog, consider how they will get along with your current dog. Here are some steps to ensure a smooth introduction:

1️⃣ Evaluate the personality and history of both your current dog and the one you're considering: If your dog is active, look for a dog with similar energy. Conversely, if your dog is more relaxed, choose a companion that matches this lifestyle. Most importantly, make sure the new dog has been properly socialised (which is where we come in 😉)

2️⃣ Neutral Ground Meeting: Introduce the dogs in a neutral location, like a neighbour’s yard or a park. This prevents territorial behaviour. Use separate handlers and let the dogs meet on dependable leashes and collars.

3️⃣ Positive Reinforcement: Allow the dogs to sniff and greet each other naturally, using calm verbal affirmations. After a play session, put both dogs in a "sit" or "stay" position, then let them interact again. Finish with a walk together to build a positive association.

4️⃣ Monitor Body Language: Watch for defensive body language such as raised hackles, teeth-baring, growling, or stiff movements. If these occur, use positive reinforcement techniques to redirect their attention and gradually reduce the distance between them.

When it comes to , they can be playful and sometimes bothersome to adult dogs. Adult dogs may growl to set boundaries, which is normal. However, never leave them alone together initially. Ensure your adult dog gets quality time alone with you and feed them separately to avoid resource guarding.

☀️ Is Your Overheated? ☀️

As temperatures rise, keep an eye on your dog's health. Watch for signs like , bright red gums, drooling, rapid heart rate, and seeking shade. If your dog shows signs of or stroke, move them to a cooler area, wet them with cool water (not cold), use a cooling mat and add an ice cube to their water bowl. Always contact a if symptoms persist.

Tarmac is also dangerous in the heat! Try the second test where you place your hand on the tarmac for seven seconds! If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!
