Lucky 'Larry' here is getting a new chassis for his 50th birthday. 🥳
Lightweight engine completed and in its transport cradle awaiting collection.
The rolling chassis we completed headed to the owners home a while back and the engine and gearbox will be reunited with it soon.
FEF and a very happy birthday to 00SP18, built 24th May 1966, the sixth and final pre-production prototype Lightweight built.
OK, it looks a little rough around the edges, but a full restoration is not required, more like several rounds of sympathetic solidification!
We have already overhauled the braking system and will continue the work as and when time allows.

Fully refurbished Toro type Overdrive now on eBay. . .
Land Rover Series Overdrive, TORO/RIBAS type with Linkage and Fitting Kit | eBay We now have available for sale the first of two professionally refurbished Ribas R2000 / Bearmach Toro Overdrive’s to suit LT76 equipped Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2a & 3. This Overdrive has been totally disassembled.
Only a short working week for me this week but I think I have finally finished the bulkhead for Lightweight #1109. Only took 36 hours of labour but more on that another time. . .
Lightweight #509 got the final brake line over the back axle and also had the clutch release segment of the gearbox built. It's one of those posh sealed-type ones which is a rare option. I have seen another and it was also on a '236' Lightweight gearbox a few 100 serial numbers from this one. Maybe it was a thing??
The rest of the time was spent standing at the blasting cabinet. . .and no one needs to see photos of that! 🥱

Been a busy few weeks here at GLF. . .
'Orbie' came for a brief stay for a steering system overhaul and full oil change.
Lightweight #509 has a painted chassis, mounted on its axles and brake hard lines made up. Lots of other bracketry has been blasted to bare metal, prep'd and painted. Steering column stripped and awaiting rebuild.
Lightweight #1109 has had bespoke footplates made as the bolt holes on the new footwells didn't quite like up. . .as per usual. The bulkhead can now come off and have the welding finished 🥳
Daddy. . . Why does the car smell funny?? 😬🤫😅
2a Lightweight #509 block, head and crank off to Drakes for some rectification works.
Now then, hope all is ok?
I am not a massive Land Rover Series diesel fan if truth be told. However last week I was nicely surprised when compression testing a 3-main 2.25d. The needle of truth bounded beyond the 400psi mark on all four cylinders. . .and stayed there.
So 'Orbie', you might be a bit pongy, made my ears bleed and feel a little slow, but big respect to ya buddy, we can see you're giving it your all!
It's fresh footwell Friday!
Making some steady progress on 42FG80, the 1969 S2a Lightweight.
Something a little different from a few weeks back. . .A Santana main box mated to a standard Series 3 transfer box. Despite the hype these boxes get, I can confirm the mainbox internals were just as mullered as a standard S3 box.
Suffix C Series 3 box completed and heading home this week.
Nothing quite smells like a well smegged 2.25 whilst been torn down 🤮
This week saw me finishing the build of the two axles for the 2a Lightweight, 37 FG 46. A rather grotty S3 LT76 also got torn down and prepared for reassembly.
O M G! Something's just can't be unseen 😱😬🤮
Poor mannequin 😥
FEF!
42FG80 dry build.
Put together without fear of scratching a fresh coat of Deep Bronze Green paint!
Finished rebuilding this Ribas/Toro/Bearmach type overdrive this morning.
Very similar to a Fairey, but better in a fair few ways.
Hoping to road-test it next week once the salt content of the lanes has dropped. . . then it will be going up for sale complete with linkage and fitting kit. PM or email for more details.
That's the spine of 42FG80 complete. . .no, not the Lightweight chassis from a previous post but a 2nd one currently in the shed at about the same stage.
This Lightweight is very original and is complete with all the major components it left the factory with. A rare find these days.
The original chassis has had a new rear cross member and a bulkhead outrigger fitted. Original engine will be rebuilt. Original gearbox and running gear will all be overhauled.
Stay tuned for updates as the build progresses. Hoping to have it up and running and for sale in the early summer months.
Dare I ask, has the fit and finish of the modern Land Rover improved any since the late 1960s? 😜
Still listing plenty of 'excess' going on eBay. Just listed this Ashcroft High ratio transfer box kit.

Also have an Ashcroft High Ratio transfer box kit on the shelf, bought in for a customer and then the plan changed. . .
It'll be fine 😬😉
Don't get mad 🤬
