HOW WE IMPROVED A CQC RATING FOR A SERVICE PROVIDER USING FULLY FUNDED TRAINING
Alium use a consultative approach to meet the needs of the those using our training services. As part of this approach, we offered a bespoke package to a service provider who had recently been rated as 'inadequate' by CQC. We conducted an audit by looking at how the provider was running on a day-to-day basis and identified what improvements needed to be made to improve their level of service. To do this, we used Skills for Care learning and development programmes to help the provider improve their leadership capabilities.
The programmes used included Fully Funded Programmes:
- LEAD TO SUCCEED
- LEADING CHANGE IMPROVING
- WELL-LED
- CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) MODULES
In addition to advising on learning and development opportunities, Alium were able to provide the care provider with expertise on the funding available through the Workforce Development Fund (WDF). This meant that the care provider was able to claim back the cost of training.
Following completion of the recommended learning and development programmes, Alium supported the care provider to create a culture of aiming to be outstanding each and every day. This was achieved through the implementation of revising policies and ensuring leadership practices aligned to what had been learned in the training. Managers are now more efficient and have the confidence to proficiently lead the service.
After re-inspection by the CQC, the service was rated as ‘Good.’
The provider said: "I can honestly say that without the commitment and support given by Alium, we would not be on the pathway to improvement. I also know that the journey is not finished, and I am confident that Alium will be there if we require further support. I’d recommend Sangita and her team to anyone who requires a dedicated open and honest approach to support required."

As it is I would love to introduce you to our founder & director, Sangita Boyd.
Sangita started Alium Care Training in 2014. Sangita gets a buzz from helping others, which anyone who meets her will agree on, and it was when she started volunteering at Age UK, that she came across a HR job role. She quickly realised that she enjoyed communication and supporting others and that working within human resources was the perfect job role for her.
She took on a number of consultancy roles whilst studying and successfully passing a Post Graduate Diploma in CertED, before going on to have a successful consulting career working as a learning development consultant at the National Health Service University.
Finally, she spent over 4 years working as a visiting lecturer at a large college where she would deliver English functional skills classes as well as other personal development programs. This was the catalyst Sangita needed to go off and start up her own training organisation and Alium Care Training was born.
Alium Care Training is a Skills for Care Centre of Excellence, through the hard work Sangita has put into building the company. How does she maintain the quality of the service?
“Growing a business does not mean that you should neglect quality, sadly, many organisations grow without considering the impact this might have on the quality of their delivery. Each member of our team is required to carry out CPD activities which are recorded and discussed during monthly staff huddles. We are a learning organisation where every member of the team is encouraged and supported to learn and stretch themselves outside of their comfort zone.”
Personally, for myself, working with Sangita is amazing. You can see the effort she puts into every piece of work, and how hard she works. She thrives in empowering and upskilling people, especially women, and I’m so proud of the work she does. My favourite quote is ‘When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower’ – and I always think of Sangita when I read this. She looks at the bigger picture, and always knows just what to do and when, to empower and help others. She is a caring boss, something that is rare in this day and age.
This year’s theme is and here at Alium, we stand for Women’s Equality.

Interesting report from Care England, who have found that 95% of care providers struggle to recruit and retain staff. Sadly, the social care sector is suffering more and more everyday with retaining the fantastic team we have, and many managers are wondering how they can retain their existing staff, and draw more to their services.
Why not enrol on our Fully Funded, Lead to Succeed programme - this programme helps develop a positive workplace culture, essential for retaining staff! Don't take our word for it, a recent delegate had this to say:
'I am new to my role as a registered manager and this programme has given me the confidence, drive and tools to continually improve all aspects of service delivery and leadership.
The delivery was fantastic. I was engaged throughout, my understanding was checked, and I felt comfortable asking questions if I wasn’t sure. The content of the course was great and the notes I’ve written are going to be a valuable resource moving forward.
I particularly benefitted from the focus on action planning. It is essential for me to develop a culture of continual improvement and I can’t wait to put what I’ve learnt into practice!’ - Jack Elsdon - Independent Lives
