Reflecting on what’s been another important year in our lives, getting back to a bit of normality following the pandemic. Not without it’s challenges of course, the cost of everything is still too high and there’s conflicts costing unnecessary innocents lives abroad. Here’s hoping that after a GE in May ‘24 that we begin to see some stability politically and economically. 🤞🏼

On a personal note, it’s been an incredible year of achievements, surrounded with the love and support of my family & friends. I married the love of my life, visited Poland, Ireland and Colorado as I expand my professional career. ✈️

I was gratefully re-elected to represent the people of our town/borough and became Deputy Mayor of Newport Town Council and hope to continue to help steer this fantastic institution forward for the greater good of our community alongside some excellent colleagues. 🤝🏼

The wife started a new business and the kids continue to fill us pride everyday with gleaming reports from their respected schools. We even watched the incredible Hans Zimmer in concert which was special 🥰

I sincerely hope everyone has a great evening and all the very best for 2024. 👍🏼

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL 🥳

27/12/2023

*UPDATE* The lights are now working again as reported by Thomas Hoof 👍🏼

The traffic lights on the Stafford St/Audley Rd junction are not working properly. Please take care.

I have reported directly to the council’s highways contractors Balfour Beatty as the TWC “out of hours” numbers aren’t currently operational.

Hopefully they’ll be out to rectify the problem today.

Great too these young people using the facilities. Excellent! 😁

12/12/2023

Not a lot places like this in many communities up and down the country. We're very fortunate to have a place for our young people to relax and socialise of an evening.

Worth getting your children involved. 😊

OPENS TONIGHT FROM 3-5PM!

Pop in for some fab teatime deals, and a warm, safe space to chill for awhile.

If you're in the area today and have a burning question to put to the NEOs on site, why not go on down to Audley Ave between 10:00-11:30 today and have a chat.

Telford & Wrekin have recognised that Audley Avenue is the highest street in Newport for fly tipping.

We would like to engage with nearby residents regarding any environmental concerns and to facilitate this, the Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers will be parked up on Audley Avenue this Thursday the 14th December between 10 and 11.30am.

The officers will be stood by a small EV due to the location, instead of the engagement van.

Up and at them this morning in Shuker Close through to Audley Ave. ☃️

Clearing the snow on the pavements is hard work, even my eyes are sweating. 🥵

Hopefully now a much safer passage for some of our community’s most vulnerable and the school foot traffic tomorrow. 😁

Lazy and inconsiderate dog owners, is the time it takes to pull a poo bag out of your pocket worth the risk of toxocariasis induced blindness in a child?

Pick up your dog’s poo. It’s really that simple!

Anyone witness to such foul behaviour can report it here: https://www.telford.gov.uk/info/20482/street_care_and_cleaning/97/dog_fouling/2

- School Streets Schemes pilot in Newport

I very much appreciate the opportunity to have some face to face with those who run the council. Updates on these matters soon.

Congratulations to all the winners of NTC’s Christmas Card Competition. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Some fantastic entries! 😁

12/11/2023

My heartfelt thanks as Deputy Mayor to everyone who turned out and paid their respects to our fallen heroes. It was my honour to lay a wreath on behalf of NTC and to stand alongside other veterans of various wars and service backgrounds.

Despite the wet and cold, it was another really well attended Remembrance Service.

We will remember them 🌺

Immaculately observed Armistice service at Newport Cemetery war graves. Thank you all this that attended.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. 🙏

Audley Ave Enhanced Crossing | Update

I’m delighted to announce the work to create the enhanced crossing on Audley Ave will begin in two weeks. Not only enabling a safer route to NJS, Infants and BBS from Shuker Fields, but also managing the speed of vehicles along this road owing to the giveway/priority to oncoming vehicles.

Pre-election promise delivered 😁

10/11/2023

Wishing everyone celebrating across our community a joyous and illuminated Diwali! 🎉

May the festival of lights bring warmth and prosperity to your life.🕯️

Newport Library Update - statement from the Clerk - Jo Reay

We were approached by Telford and Wrekin Council a couple of months ago with an opportunity to work with them to look at the library provision in Newport.

Newport Town Council have very recently carried out a survey with all of our residents with an unprecedented amount of surveys returned. The responses made it very clear to us how well regarded the library is and how important it is that there continues to be a library in town.

That is why Newport Town Council committed in the Full Town Council meeting in October (minutes are available to view on the website) to explore every opportunity to ensure the future security and high standard of service at Newport library is maintained.

We stand with our residents on this issue. We value the library as an important asset to our community.

All Councillors and staff at Newport Town Council are working hard on your behalf to secure the future of the library.

Please don't hesitate to contact the Guildhall with any comments and queries regarding the library. You can email [email protected]

08/11/2023

Millwood Mere ¦ Update

I have today received acknowledgment from TWC Planning Enforcement who are set to investigate non-compliance with approved plans regards drainage from the land west of Station Rd.

Millwood Mere ¦ Update

Despite previous concerns raised over the environmental impact of the run-off silt from Bloor Homes site on Station Rd into Millwood Mere (off Ashworth Way), I was appalled today to learn from local residents that pumps are allegedly being used to remove surface water from the site and directed into the Mere.

I asked TWC Planning and Environmental Enforcement teams to urgently investigate this matter and put a stop to any activities that could be polluting Millwood Mere, if that is indeed the case.

Further updates when I have them.
