A large piece of equipment will be taken from Ipswich Port to National Grid’s substation near Bramford, Suffolk. This is essential transformer equipment which will allow the National Grid to provide renewable energy to homes and businesses.
The load weighs over 250 tonnes and is over 76 metres long. Due to its size, the lorry moving it will be escorted by the police, who will need to temporarily hold traffic to allow the convoy to safely progress. The convoy will move very slowly while it is on the road.
Due to the complexity of moving equipment of this size, there will be disruption on the A14 on the following dates, so please plan ahead:
Sunday 30 June
Sunday 7 July
Sunday 14 July
On those dates, the vehicles are expected to leave the Port of Ipswich at around 8am and will make their way to join the A14 at junction 56, before joining the A14 and travelling to junction 55.
The convoy will then use the A14 between junction 55 and 56, before leaving to use local roads. The A14 between junctions 55 and 56 eastbound will be fully closed while the convoy is on the carriageway.
These vehicles are expected to leave the A14 around 12pm, at which point the road will fully reopen. Please note, all timings are subject to change depending on progress.
To ensure there are no hold-ups, there will be some activities carried out ahead of the convoy, which includes the removal of carriageway signage.
To follow the progress of the convoy along the A14, please follow us at HighwaysEAST on X.
Find out more about which local roads will also be affected to move the equipment on the Scottish Power website.

The tank is 13.6m long by 3m wide, and will help to increase capacity of the existing road drainage. We thank road users and the local community for their patience whilst we buried the floodwater storage tank.

Since flooding began in March, over 15 million litres of water have been extracted from the A14 at junction 37, near Newmarket in Suffolk.
