The chemotherapy and immunotherapy I had to treat breast cancer damaged my nails, which was hard to see as I’ve always loved having beautiful nails.
Now they have finally grown out, I was able to use GOX to extend them just over my fingertips and used Pink Concealer Correction Gel and Dazzled for natural sparkle ✨

I was approached a few weeks ago to discuss élégant nails offering treatments to residents at a local care home, part of the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, who offer resident-centred care and dedicated dementia support to veterans and their dependants in Portsmouth, (home of the Royal Navy).

I saw a lovely lady and treated her natural nails to the amazing Artistic Colour Gloss as she missed having her nails done since moving. So happy that I was able to bring a smile to her face 💗

It’s been such a long time since I’ve been active on here. After a long 18 months, I will finish immunotherapy treatment in 6 weeks time and will be re-opening élégant nails (working part time), week commencing Monday 17th April 2023.

I’ve had to make modifications on the treatments that I’ll be able to offer. Chemotherapy has left me with neuropathy in my hands and feet, so there are some treatments that I’ve had to change, or remove completely from my menu for the time being.

Due to fatigue, I am also going to have to limit my days and hours to begin with. I’m hoping that as time goes on, I will be able to re-evaluate my time and welcome more of you back on days and times that work better.

I’ve almost completed the updates for my online booking system and website, so please bear with me whilst I complete this over the next few days.

𝘽𝙄𝙂 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀 - it’s a bit of a long post🙈

Sorry I’ve been so quiet on my business page but hopefully this information will take you through everything that’s happened so far.

I have only two more rounds of chemo to go! Wow, that’s 23 weeks of having chemicals that could potentially kill me, to stop something that could potentially kill me…weird eh!

So, as well as my 10th cycle of PAX, 4th cycle of Herceptin this week, I’ve also seen my medical oncologist and my new clinical oncologist (medical oncology deal with chemo, hormone and medical treatments, whereas clinical oncology deal with radiotherapy and systemic treatments), to review chemo and discuss what happens next.

𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮:
Chemo has been smashed so far 🖐🏼🎤
Yes I’ve felt god damn awful at times, had side effects that would drive you crazy but every blood review that I’ve had to have before being able to go ahead for the next round of chemo have been just like they’d expect a healthy blood test to be, so my body has recovered each and every time (even though sometimes it hasn’t quite felt like it). I haven’t had any life threatening infections and managed to keep safe.

I haven’t come out completely unscathed. Chemical burns to my face, external thrush, horrendous mouth ulcers, no hair/brows/lashes, neuropathy in my toes, dizzy spells, plus 3 extra stone of excess weight/edema makes me look in the mirror and wonder who’s staring back at times.

So what’s next? In 7 weeks I’m back with my medical oncologist to review in detail my hormone therapy. He’s confirmed that I will be taking a drug called Tamoxifen every day for the next 7-10 years. What this will do is block estrogen from reaching breast tissue to potentially generate cancer cells. This comes with a string of common side effects but hopefully I won’t have any or only a few mild ones🤞🏼

I will still be needing Herceptin treatment every 3 weeks until April 2023, controlling the HER2 protein in my body and stop potential cancer cells from accelerated division and growth.

𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮:
Radiotherapy will start 4 weeks after my final Pacitaxel chemo. I will have a one week course of breast radiotherapy, followed by a 'tumour bed boost', where I will hopefully have a further 5 sessions of radiotherapy to the area where the tumour originated from.

Typical side effects include tiredness, sore skin and breast tenderness in the short term. The long-term side effects are a change to the breast appearance, discomfort in the breast tissue and chest wall, shoulder stiffness, a small risk of scarring of the underlying lung and a small risk of a different cancer in the treatment area.

Today, I signed the consent form to kick everything off and before I start my radiotherapy treatment, I’ll need to do a planning process which involves a CT scan in the radiotherapy treatment position and I will be given tattoos which will be used to ensure accurate positioning for the treatment. I have also been told that I need to plan for further time off work and I shouldn’t expect to be able to reopen my business until at least the beginning of October 😞.

I suppose I’ve lasted this long and there’s no point in rushing back too early to only have to take time off again. I just hope that you will all come back when I can finally give you the good news when I’m able to confirm a date when I will be back # # #

First of all, I’d like to wish you all a ‘Happy New Year!’

This year has been a struggle for everyone one way or another with COVID and I for one am grateful for all your support when we returned yet again after 2021’s Lockdown and you came back to me for your treatments.

Unfortunately now after finishing today’s appointments, I must temporarily close from today for a more personal reason when I embark on another important journey and start my adjuvant cancer treatment.

I am still disappointed that I cannot see you for your nails, lashes or brows. I do however know that it’s to protect me from infection whilst the six months of chemotherapy does it’s job. I have however, found help by liaising with two wonderful ladies local to Portsmouth/Southsea who will help those who’d like to continue their treatments in my absence.

I will continue to update you all through social media to let you know how I’m getting along. I had my ECG on Wednesday, so that’s another check ticked off and apart from the blood tests completed 2 days before my first chemo session…I am ready.
