Her creativity and vision truly brought our theme to life.
Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes glimpses and the story behind their amazing work!
Lizzie Hobbs is a Manchester-based artist who creates freehand drawings and paintings inspired by patterns from Asia and the Middle East. She has won international awards, been featured in Vogue Magazine, exhibited at the V&A, and produced a mindfulness colouring book in the UK and Brazil. Her Persian Miniature Painting and Illumination work is traditional but with a twist - she starts with a blank piece of paper and simply draws everything freehand. In her work, she likes to push boundaries and construct pieces that are contemporary, show construction lines and decay, and depict perspectives that aren't possible to see in reality. To feed into her practice, Lizzie collects people's stories along with ideas from architecture, landscapes, nature, and textiles. Her colour exploration work includes researching the history, symbolism, stories, and chemicals of colour, and Lizzie forages to create some of her own pigments from the earth around us.

I made it! My marquetry paining is complete & entirely freehand. Inspired by my travels and based on the table in The Repair Shop. Features liquid metal cream pearl from C Roberson & Co.
I'm nearly there with my marquetry painting! I just need to figure out a darker colour for the outer wood and add mother of pearl paint.
Colour swatching - geometric design inspired by marquetry. It's quite tricky!
Taking a break from my large carpet piece, and working on an experimental geometric design inspired by marquetry and furniture

I'm very glad to have daylight lamps at this time of year - keeps the artwork going through the winter!
Outlining and more outlining...
My latest project is taking shape...
The outlining begins...always a scary part committing ink to paper, eek!
My rug obsession continues... At last I have made my very own miniature Persian carpet! Made with Appletons Wool (dyed and spun in Yorkshire) from the wonderful shop Norwegian Wool.
A very different project - I'm having a go at making my own mini Persian carpet! Thanks to Appletons Wool and the wonderful shop Norwegian Wool.
Building up the spirals!
Details coming to life...
My current project blends together Persian carpet designs and manuscript Shamsas. All construction lines (and patterns) are drawn freehand and by eye as usual – because that's how I roll! :)
I am very excited to share with you my latest completed painting, inspired by Layla and Majnun. Featuring genuine madder, piemontite, and Mayan Blue.
Details coming along - nearly there!

Oops! Lots of wobbly and wonky lines on this one! Hopefully I'll be able to bring it back, so it can shine in its own way. Mistakes happen...
