On this day 1987, Kenneth James Owens was born in Carmarthen.
One of the leading ho**ers in world rugby, Ken has been at the Scarlets since 2004, coming through the Academy before making his senior debut two years later.
Made his Test debut for Wales against Namibia during the 2011 Rugby World Cup and has been a virtual ever-present in the squad since.
Selected for the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 2017, he captained the side against the Blues and was part of the Test match-day for the epic drawn series. The talismanic forward was named the coach's and fans' player of the season for 2018-19 and was Wales’ first-choice ho**er at the World Cup in Japan.
Has captained the Scarlets from 2014 to 2021 and has over 250 appearences.

On this day 1931 William John Charles, CBE was born in Swansea.
He was a Welsh international footballer who played for Leeds United and Juventus during his 25-year playing career. Rated by many as the greatest all-round footballer ever to come from Britain, he was equally adept as a forward or defender due to his strength, pace, technique, vision, ability in the air and eye for goal.
He has since been included in the Football League 100 Legends and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.

He was never cautioned or sent off during his entire career, due to his philosophy of never kicking or intentionally hurting opposing players. Thus, due to his correct behaviour and tall stature, standing at 6 ft 2 in, he was nicknamed Il Gigante Buono – The Gentle Giant.


He 15 goals n 38 matches for Wales whilst at club level - scoring 370 in 715 appearances.

With 71 caps and 20 goals for Wales he will be remembered as one of the countries finest midfielders.
Rambo was instrumental in Wales’ EURO 2016 success in France, driving his team to a semi-final spot with Portugal. The result that day may have been very different if he and Ben Davies were not suspended…
Signing for Italian giants Juventus made him the highest earning basic salary player from the UK showing how undervalued he may have been at Arsenal.
He won the Seria A and Copa Italia in 19-20 season. Adding to his three FA Cups amd Europa League runners up medal.

On this day 1988, Leigh Halfpenny was born in Swansea.
With 766 points in 93 international appearances, he lies third in the in the all time top scorers list for Wales.
Halfpenny has won three Six Nations Championships with two of them being Grand Slams.
He toured Australia and New Zealand with the Lions, winning 4 caps and scoring 49 points.
He will be considered as one of Wales’ bravest full-backs with a cannon of a right boot!

Thomas Mervyn Davies - 'Merv The Swerve' - born on this day 1946.

The former London Welsh and Swansea No.8 Davies made his international debut in 1969 and went on to become one of the most influential players ever to wear the red of Wales and the British & Irish Lions.

He was inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame in 2001 and the following year a poll of Welsh rugby fans saw him voted the greatest ever Welsh captain and the greatest ever Welsh No.8.

On this day 1977, Stephen Michael Jones was born in Aberystwyth. He won 104 caps for Wales and six times for the British and Irish Lions.

Jones was the record cap holder for Wales until he was overtaken by Gethin Jenkins on 15 March 2014. He remains as Wales most-capped back. With 970 test points, Jones is seventh in the List of leading rugby union test point scorers, and the second-highest Wales player on the list behind Neil Jenkins.

He played for Llanelli, Scarlets, Clermont Auvergne, and Wasps before returning to play and then coach the Scarlets.
