Recently, our A Level Geology students had their second day of summer fieldwork on a blustery day in Castleton. Not what we expect at the start of July! 🌬

In the morning students explored the limestone exposures of Windy Knoll looking for Carboniferous fossils, and exploring the landslide and deepwater turbidites and shales at Mam Tor. They were glad of the respite from the wind as they ventured down Treak Cliff cavern in the afternoon to find out about the Blue-John Fluorite. ⛰

Angel is now gearing up for her Gold Expedition to Dartmoor, where she and her peers will embark on a challenging 80km journey over four days, fully self-sufficient after training weekends earlier this year. 🙌 It promises to be an exciting end-of-term adventure with the college. 🤩

Our new, second-year Geography students spent time on residential to Yorkshire last week to support their skill development before completing their non-examined assessment. 📝

Day 1️⃣ was spent in Hull studying environmental change, representation of place and rebranding before hitting the coast on day 2️⃣. The coastal day included a stop at Flamborough head (The seals put on a show!), Hornsea and Mappleton to study coastal processes, landforms and management. There was just enough time for a morning in York before returning to College.

🎉 Students from T Level Health and the Medical, Dentistry and Veterinary (MDV) Society impressed at the Staffordshire University Health Skills Challenge last week!

Out of 1️⃣8️⃣ teams from various schools and colleges, we proudly took home 1st and 3rd place! 🥇🥉

On Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 4th July, 1️⃣2️⃣ of our prospective Cambridge applicants visited the University of Cambridge Open Day. 🎓

When students arrived they met with Dr Catherine Sumnall, the Admissions Director for Sidney Sussex College and Sandy Mills, Admissions Tutor. They discussed how to write effective personal statements for their UCAS applications as well as factors to consider in choosing a college at Cambridge.

After spending a night at the college and getting a taste of student life, our students attended the Open Day, visiting the colleges that appealed to them and finding out more about the application process. 📝

Our Criminology students recently had an incredible hands-on experience with two action-packed sessions at Staffordshire University!

🔎 Session 1: 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏! Our students immersed themselves in various crime scenes, gathering evidence and connecting clues to unravel the mysteries. 🕵️‍♀️

💻 Session 2: 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒔! They learned how to analyse phones for pictures, videos, and geo-locations, gaining valuable insights into the digital footprint left behind. 📱💻

🎉 On Wednesday, we hosted a fantastic Leadership Half-Day Training for local school prefect teams, school captains, and head pupils at Keele University! This session was packed with essential leadership skills and knowledge and it was an excellent networking opportunity for educators.

As part of their practical skills in our Geology course, they delved into ancient geological structures and rocks, uncovering the fascinating history of the environment from 430 million years ago.

The day was a hit, especially the fossil-hunting adventure — plenty of amazing finds! 🦕✨
