WHERE ARE YOU HAVING YOUR BABY?
I know, I know you’ve probably already decided. So let’s rewind a bit, how did you make that decision? I’m guessing other people’s choices and opinions played at least some part in it.
This isn’t anyone else’s birth though, it’s YOURS.
Think about your wedding if you had one or weddings you’ve attended. Did you choose the same venue as all your mates. Where the ones you attended all in same place?
Of course not, because people chose what was right for them based on their individual needs.
Where you have you baby is definitely a decision worth investing time in. Check out the stats for your local hospital or birth centre. What are the induction and c section rates? This is telling you something.
Look up recent research such as the Hutton et al 2019 study. You might be surprised to find out how safe home birth is.
And instead of thinking about what place is safer, think about where YOU feel safe? Your nervous system plays a huge part in birth!

Is there any evidence of benefit to induction of labour for gestational diabetes?
That’s a question I hear a lot.
Women who have been told that they have gestational diabetes are often also offered early induction of labour.
But is there any evidence of benefit for this?
Well, as you can see from the summary picture, there is no evidence showing that induction of labour is beneficial for women with gestational diabetes.
If you'd like to know more, find out why or see the evidence (or lack thereof) for yourself, I have a blog post on this topic.
It's available at https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/induction-for-gestational-diabetes/
I want to remind you that, as always, whether you want to agree to induction or not is up to you.
But if you’d like information to help you decide, I have two books and a whole website full of resources to help.
For more on induction generally, see www.sarawickham/iol for resources.
Yes, you can reshare this post. Please leave the picture, text and credit intact and do not put my work/words in your own branding. Thank you 💜

Local peeps check out these sessions if you’re looking for weaning advice
📢 Over the summer we carried out a survey and parents said they would find face to face sessions to help introduce little ones to solid foods helpful.
🥣 We've listened and we're excited to introduce these sessions in 2024!
📍 The first four sessions are taking place on:
🔘 Thursday 11 January, 10-11am at Shiremoor Family Hub
🔘 Monday 15 January, 1.30-2.30pm at Waves
🔘 Wednesday 24 January, 1-2pm at Riverside Family Hub
🔘 Tuesday 30 January, 11am-12pm at Wallsend Customer First Centre
👉 Sessions are free to attend and there's no need to book, just turn up for the start time of the session. It's a great opportunity to talk to our team about all things weaning and listen to helpful tips and advice around starting to introduce solid foods.
You wouldn't let anyone else tell you how to decorate for the holidays.
Or what to eat, drink or wear.
Even though adulting can be hard, and it can be helpful to have genuine experts on hand to get good information and advice, we want to make our own decisions about most things.
Your pregnancy and birth are no different.
In fact, they’re more important.
Because the decisions that we make about pregnancy and childbirth can shape our experiences, health and lives, as well as those of our children and families.
So it's important to make the decisions that are right for you.
Your body. Your baby. Your decisions.
All year round.
