FMS SCHOOLS TESTIMONIAL: COLFE'S SCHOOL
‘Developing movement skills plays a key role in helping children find a sport they love.’ writes Jack Potter
'At Colfe’s, our philosophy is sport for all, to not only access their favourite sport but also to give them the physical confidence to try new sports and activity.'
'We’re really supporting and challenging our pupils with their physical journey, whatever level that may be, as we recognise everyone is different.'
'Lockdown really highlighted the importance of consistent physical activity, for both physical and mental well-being.'
'Our mission is to ensure we are doing everything we can to encourage our pupils to engage in an active lifestyle.'
'We know that good movement skills are the basis for any physical activity and play a key role in motivation. When a person can move freely, with good balance and posture they will find it easier to deliver skills and enjoy it more.'
'With functional movement being the foundation to our curriculum, we implemented the FMS Schools software to enhance this process. This has been the key to assessing each individual pupil’s abilities in a more precise and consistent way.'
'The consequence has been to reverse the effects of lockdown and begin bridging the gap between the naturally good movers and those starting out on their athletic journey. The results speak for themselves. It has enhanced our PE offering in so many ways.'
'We use the platform as a warmup tool, this means that pupils can start their lesson as soon as they’re changed; it gives pupils a sense of responsibility and engages everyone straight away. For us as teachers it means every minute of the lesson is utilised.'
'Our pupils are really enjoying seeing recorded evidence of their progress. The platform means you’re just competing with yourself, giving those that aren’t keen on team sport an avenue to feel more included in PE lessons.'
'The software is a brilliant resource to support our curriculum, around stability and locomotion. The Movement Play module and The Bridge help us to lesson plan and create different, fun experiences for our pupils.'
'We look for every opportunity to encourage independence and self-motivation. We use the platform to set PE homework, to build momentum, create habits and enhance the athletic development process.'
'It’s also a chance for parents and carers to see what we are doing in the PE department, and the feedback has been very positive.'
'We are always looking for every opportunity to improve what we do. The FMS platform is helping develop a positive association to movement and activity and ultimately setting our children on a more active path for the rest of their lives.'
- Jack Potter, Colfe's School (UK), March 2023
The British School Jakarta partner with FMS Schools!
Matt Cherrett, Head of PE, said:
‘BSJ has chosen to implement FMS Schools in order to raise students' awareness of movement patterns. Post pandemic students have returned to PHE after having periods of limited activity and therefore our aim is to get our school community moving again. What better time to introduce a clear programme that helps students and teachers to identify the basic movement patterns required for everyday life and sporting performance. As we develop our curriculum to be more inquiry based, we felt giving students the information and the tools to track their progress would empower each individual to have greater awareness of the body’s movement patterns.
‘We believe that bringing this into the curriculum for everyone and then developing this further as part of our wellbeing and sports programmes we have the potential to get students moving freely and comfortably therefore increasing the fun of physical activity.’
‘At BSJ, we understand the importance of developing healthy movement habits in our students during their formative years. Our aim is to help our students build a positive association with physical activity, which can lead to greater confidence as a teenager and more active lifestyle throughout their lives.’

Prospect House School partner with FMS Schools!
Si Vedat, Head of PE & Sport, said:
‘We understand the importance of the physical health and mental wellbeing of all children. After a great deal of research, we chose FMS Schools to enhance our robust PE curriculum. The programme not only helps identify areas of physical development but also highlights key areas of physical strength.
An excellent feature is that this platform promotes independent learning and allows the children to take ownership on where and when they would like to work on their individual programme. The staff have assessed all the children and a personal exercise passport has been created for every child from Years 3-6.
The special programme guides each child through a set of movements that help improve their core strength, stability, and posture. Not only have we seen a marked increase in the children’s coordination and movement during their sports lessons, but we have observed better concentration in all areas of the curriculum.
The dynamic programme is easy to follow and enables the parents to support their children through their FMS journey.’
Cothill House School partner with FMS Schools
Rory Griffiths, Director of Sport, said: ‘With increased screen and idle time now part of modern life, we want to enable our boys, initially those in Years 4-6, to identify and then rectify any issues with posture, breathing, mobility and stability. It should have a significant impact on how they go about their lives inside and outside the classroom.'
‘It will complement our PE programme, allowing our boys to identify and correct any issues in their balance, movement, and stability - and ultimately become better movers. In the longer term, we aim to push our most talented athletes on the Bridge athletic development programme that will help them develop greater confidence.'
is very excited to be the first school in New Zealand to partner with FMS Schools. Over the next two years, students in Years 3-8 will develop a personalised improvement pathway that supports breathing, balance, mobility and postural control.'
Matt Henry, Head of Physical Education and Sport, said:
'At Selwyn House we emphasise the enjoyment of physical activity and the importance of learning skills that will encourage the girls to remain physically active throughout their lives. Prioritising each student’s personal, social and physical well-being remains paramount and a partnership with FMS Schools is another way to enhance our existing Physical Education and wellness programmes.'

Kingswood College in South Africa Partners with FMS Schools
James Hough, Head of Kingswood Junior School said:
“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with FMS to run a new functional movement programme. Over the last few years, we have, unfortunately, seen an increase in poor or incorrect movement, low muscle tone and underdeveloped gross motor skills in children. We look forward to using the FMS software and platform to help us identify areas of concern and to allow us to tailor individual exercises for each child to correct and improve their movement. We have no doubt that this will benefit every child’s growth and development and assist with our sporting and extra-mural curriculum.”
