⚠️ Updated statement: Toxic chemical spillage, 13 August 2024

We were notified on 12 August by the Environment Agency of a toxic chemical spillage in Pleck, Walsall.

The spillage has gone into the canal in Walsall and as a precautionary measure, we are asking the public to avoid an extended area of the canal and towpaths from the Walsall lock flight to the lock flights at Rushall/Ryders Green and Perry Barr (see map).

The Environment Agency is establishing a sampling and testing programme, and we hope to reduce the affected area as soon as possible.
