A lovely group for little ones.

It’s that time of year again when mini eggs are lining the supermarket shelves. But, did you know that, just like grapes, they are the perfect size to block a small child’s airway and choke them? And, their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

With whole grapes we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isn’t as easy. So, what can you do?

1. Hide them from the children and eat them yourself – good luck with that!

2. Put the mini eggs into a sealable plastic bag and smash them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or, crush them in a pestle and mortar.

3. Opt for a different treat. Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for little ones.

With Christmas coming , you can never give a nicer present than a book or two. Osborne books are the best quality and the nicest to share with your child.

Edit…. This is no one I know. Just wanted to share. I copied it from a safeguarding site.

Just wanted to share my word of warning with any parents of toddlers out there who give their children mini milks or any ice cream like these really.

Yesterday in our local shop I bought my son (3.5Y) a mini milk. I would have never in a million years deemed these as dangerous or unsuitable for kids.
While leaving the shop a big chunk just snapped clean off and got stuck in my sons throat.
Unfortunately he started to choak turning blue and couldn't breath. It had wedged itself into his throat wouldn't come up or go down. We had 3 adults try and get it out following first aid instructions from 999 while he kept getting worse. Eventually it did melt enough to go down but the lovely call handler on 999 said they are a common choking hazard with kids as they are the same size as their throat.
Hes completely fine given the all clear, but I wanted to warn other parents to please please please be careful with this type of ice cream.
It's packaged and aimed at younger children I would never have thought it could have done that.

🐥 In the run up to Easter, a friendly reminder that Mini Eggs are the same size as a young child's airway.

🐣 They pose a choking risk for children under the age of 4.
