FOUND CAT

I have just got back after attending a cat who has been involved in an RTA on Knutsford Road, Cranage.

The cat has a microchip, but sadly the only phone number on file doesn’t appear to be up to date.

The cat is with me, but please share to help find the rightful owner.

Until the admin team at the microchip database are open on Monday, I can’t access any further details.

Many thanks.

CLIENT NOTICE.

I am now on annual leave, returning on Tuesday 7th June.

In my absence, if you need veterinary care for your pet at any point between now and 7th June, please contact the fabulous new practice: Goostrey Lane Vets either through their website https://www.goostreylanevets.co.uk
Or by calling their team on 01477 406 008.

Please note that routine home visits will be suspended until my return, and you would be required to take your pet to the practice.

When closed, their voicemail will direct you to the out of hours provider.

Of course, very many of you have existing relationships with other bricks and mortar practices, and you are welcome to make arrangements there if you prefer.

I’d like to extend my thanks to James and the team at Goostrey Lane Vets for kindly providing the cover to allow me this much-needed break.

Yesterday was a long day.

A late finish owing to a request to help a lovely, large breed dog to cross Rainbow Bridge. He lived his whole 12 years with a dedicated family in NW London, and had heard of Sunset PetCare from their vet practice.

Mr Z (as we’ll call him) was a gentle giant by now (though I wouldn’t have wanted to cross him, in his more youthful years, judging by the photo of him on the side!)

Despite having not moved from his position on the lounge floor for a few hours, he still managed a brief tail wagg, and what genuinely looked like a smile, when I entered the family home.

I’d already chatted to the family about what was going on with Mr Z, and had reviewed his vet notes.

It was clear the whole family loved Mr Z, and were really upset at losing him.

We chatted, did what had to be done with all 4 family members gathered round him, stroking him, talking to him, reassuring him. We then sat in silence for a few minutes whilst his family played with his ears, tickled him under his chin, and the other things which made their bond so special.

I’ll be arranging the cremation of Mr Z, and returning his ashes to his home just as soon as I can.

What struck me about this visit was the gratitude shown: despite what we had just done, within 20 minutes, the family were kind enough to send me a thank you text. And yet I’m the one who should be thanking them: for allowing me to be there at this important time.

Another star shines brightly in the night sky. Rest easy Mr Z.

I work with Whitley Brook pet crematorium. No matter the cremation chosen, I personally hand my patients over to them. If ashes are requested, Whitley Brook return them to me for me to bring those remains back home to you.

Hi all,

Please note that I will be unavailable next week (Monday to Thursday 13-16 December inclusive) as we have to isolate at home prior to Izzie having some minor medical treatment. I will still be available for video consultations by zoom, and you may still collect medications from me, but I will be confined to barracks for the week I'm afraid.

Many thanks for your understanding.

James.

Rest easy (not so) little one.

I’ve had a few public comments and private messages asking for the costs involved in a dignified, unhurried final care at home appointment, so I thought I’d describe the procedure and costs involved.

The 3-stage process involves our initial conversation to discuss your pets health issues, along with a review of your vet’s notes and clinical examination of the patient. Assuming we all agree that final care is the appropriate way to safeguard your pet’s welfare, I will ask for the owner or another responsible adult to sign an end-of-life consent form.

I’ll then give an injection of a sedative medication which will take 5-10 minutes to cause a profound relaxation of your pet: during this time, I can either remain present, or wait patiently in another room or in my vehicle whilst your pet drifts into a deep sleep, surrounded by their family.

Once the sedation has taken effect, we can then give the final injection.
For dogs, I will use a local anaesthetic spray over a vein in the hind leg, whilst the family remain with the pet. The sedated patient will then drift away as I give the final injection.

For cats, I might use the front leg, or an injection into the tummy, near one of the kidneys. In all cases, the pet is highly unlikely to feel this final injection.

In terms of costs, my in-hours fees are:
£222 plus drug costs of £25-£45 for all of the above.
Depending on your location, there may be additional travel expenses. For areas not in postcode areas CW4, CW11, CW12, travel is charged at £20 per 15 minutes to cover time and vehicle running costs.

You are welcome to make your own aftercare arrangements. Or I can arrange cremation for you.
A routine cremation without ashes being returned will cost from £80.

For individual cremation and ashes back, please refer to the following link to the crematorium that I use to see available options.

https://www.whitleybrook.co.uk/caskets-urns.html

I do add a nominal £10 to their fees, for arranging the cremation. You can find their prices also on the attached web link.

Information correct at time of posting, and updated on 6th August 2022.

Tonight, Heaven gained another star.

I attended a lovely dog in Newcastle under Lyme. Aged 14, she had lived a full life, travelled across the UK extensively, run on the beach, across fields, and now at peace owing to an inoperable cancer.

She went to sleep in her dads arms, on the sofa, where she lay when I entered the house. She barely felt a thing as she drifted into her last, deepest sleep.

Run free little one.

The Sunset Wall of Remembrance.

Please post a picture of any pets you wish to remember in the comments below. I'll start with a picture of my first dog- Millie.

She came into the practice I worked at, within a month of graduating as a vet. She had been in an RTA, and had a broken leg and several broken ribs. She was only about 5 or 6 months old, and as no-one ever came forwards for her, she lived a long and happy 17 years with my partner and I.

We sadly lost her on the 8th October 2016.

Such was my love of her, that I have promised that if I ever open another vet practice, it will be called Millie's Vets.

RIP Millie-moo.

At Sunset Pet Care, our speciality is ensuring that when a pet must cross rainbow bridge, that they do so in a calm, peaceful and dignified manner.

Our vet comes to you, meaning no trip to the vets. Instead, your pet gets to go on their final journey from the comfort and familiarity of their own home surrounded by the people they know and trust.

The procedure is calm and peaceful, and the family get time and privacy to say their final farewell. That’s why various veterinary practices across the northwest recommend Sunset Pet Care to their clients.
