Position: Mechanical Fitter (Skilled and Unskilled)

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will play a crucial role in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of mechanical components and systems. Working closely with our experienced team, you will be involved in building and testing intricate machinery that powers various industries, contributing to the advancement of technology.

Requirements:

Skilled Mechanical Fitters:
Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role in an industrial setting.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and techniques.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Unskilled Mechanical Fitters:
Enthusiasm for mechanics and a keen interest in pursuing a career in the field.
Basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical systems.
Willingness to learn and take instruction from experienced team members.
Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
Physical fitness and ability to handle manual tasks.

The GRANTHAM ELECTRICAL team, providing another fast and effective turnaround for a local food processing customer.

Not only do we manufacturer our own motors but being a TEC Electric Motors Platinum Distributor means we can take a stock item and configure it to the customers specific requirements quickly, getting them back up and running as soon as possible.

Great teamwork &

2-Off Tec 15kw 6pole Motors required quickly by one of our customers in the food processing sector last week. The Motors are running in a Freezer application and need to be modified to suit the conditions.

Motors were ordered and delivered next day from TEC Electric Motors. They were stripped and the Non Drive End of the Rotor Shaft removed, Bearings are washed out and re-greased with low temperature food grade grease and when reassembled the end housing is capped and the terminal box encapsulated.

2 days from order to delivery and exceeded our customers expectations.

Job Title: Trainee Winder – Grantham

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Grantham repairs workshop as a Trainee Winder.

As a trainee you will be trained in the rewinding of electrical motors for a variety of industries including; aggregates, agriculture (food and animal feed), Construction, Recycling & Waste Management etc.

Training will involve learning all aspects and types of rewinds of stators and motors from hand insertion winding, winding coils, electrical trouble shooting and testing, winding and connecting electrical stator windings and operating machinery and equipment including overhead crane and use of various hand tools.

Any previous experience or studies of electrical or mechanical engineering would be advantages however full training will be provided.

This is a hands-on and varied role working on repair projects as they come into the repairs workshop.

A great long term employment opportunity for this well-established and growing Lincolnshire business.

Celebrating another of our engineers of the future and of course National Apprenticeship Week, meet Craig. đź› 

Craig joined Grantham Engineering in October 2018 and has recently completed his Level 3 Apprenticeship and has decided to continue his training and embark on an Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship, which is the equivalent to the first year of a degree or HNC qualification.

As a now skilled engineer Craig has learnt an array of skills throughout his time with us, from CNC machine programming and operating to robot operation and even motor winding in our winding shop.

Dave Watkin, Machine Shop Foreman said; “Craig has been a model apprentice, whatever task he has been given he has just got on and completed it, he is very capable and has fantastic robotic and programming skills and it’s a pleasure to have him on the team, he is an asset to the business.

Craig is pictured here, along with his colleague and experienced engineer Alex, performing a number of CNC Programming and Machining tasks, including programming our newest advanced state of the art robot, the Mazak Intergrex i-500ST.

Craig now has his sights set on continuing to develop his abilities and said “I’m now wanting to enhance my CNC programming and machining skills further and start exploring my interest in the Design aspects of the products I have been manufacturing for the past 5 years.”

Outside of work, Craig enjoys many sports and is an F1 and Football fan and enjoys spending his free time with his mates playing pool.

Join us in congratulating Craig on his successful completion of his Level 3 Apprenticeship. Well done Craig, a great achievement and we wish you the best of luck for your Level 4.

Continuing our celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, here’s another introduction to one of our engineers of the future. 🛠

Meet Caine, a 1st Year Engineering Technician, Level 3 Apprentice who joined our Machine Shop department in August 2022.

Since joining us last summer, Caine has been able to experience a variety of sections and departments across our manufacturing facility, but has now settled into a programming role within the Machine Shop. He said “I really enjoy learning how to programme and work the machines and am looking forward to learning more throughout my apprenticeship.”

Pictured here, Caine is programming and adjusting one of the CNC machines for machining core elements of our motor production.

Dave Watkin, Machine Shop Foreman said; “As a first year student Caine is proving to be very useful within the department and is starting to really understand the processes and jobs within the machine shop. He is a welcome member of the team and has a bright future ahead of him.”

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we wanted to introduce you to some of our Grantham Engineering, engineers of the future. đź› 

Meet George, our 1st Year Maintenance & Operations Engineer (MOET) Apprentice who joined our GRANTHAM ELECTRICAL Repairs and Rewinds department in September 2022. Working closely with Vernon one of our highly experienced engineers, George is working on an urgent indexing gearbox repair for a local food manufacturer.

Having been with us for just a few months George says; “The most enjoyable part of my apprenticeship is being able to be hands-on and always learning new skills. I’m looking forward to learning more and experiencing all of the jobs within the department."

Nigel Skeith, General Manager for Grantham Electrical said; “George has been a great asset to the department and after just a short time he has been able to take responsibility for the preparation of new motors and motor gear boxes before despatch, which is a great help to the repairs workshop team. We look forward to developing his skills and allowing him to take on more complex repairs in the coming months.”

George is one of 3 apprentices we currently have across our Grantham repairs and manufacturing facilities and we are always on the look out to train and develop the engineers of the future.

Her Majesty The Queen’s Funeral 19th September 2022

Monday the 19th September is the day of HRH Queen Elizabeth II State Funeral and has been declared a Bank Holiday in the UK.

To show our respects, Grantham Engineering Ltd and our divisions will be closed for the day to allow staff to commemorate the Queen’s passing.

We will reopen on Tuesday 20th Sept. Thank you for your understanding.

The team would like to say a huge thank you to every one of our National Manufacturing Day visitors yesterday, it was a great success which couldn't have happened without the support of our fantastic employees and of course the work of Make UK and the GLEAM Network-SK.
