The 10th Chingford Scout Group are an enthusiastic and outdoor loving scout group who meet weekly throughout the year. We cater for ages 6 to 14 with our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We enjoy weekend camps with different activities, occasional outings, attend District events with other local Scouts and always look forward to a week long camp in the Summer, sometimes to one of the Jamborees. Sir Jack Petchey made such a difference to so many young lives… not only by providing funds but by inspiring self esteem, confidence and philanthropism in the process.
Text from Greater London North Scouts:
It is with great sadness that we share with you the news that Sir Jack Petchey CBE, founder of the Jack Petchey Foundation, passed away earlier today at the age of 98.
Sir Jack was one of the UK’s most successful businessmen, with entrepreneurial ventures spanning travel, property and investments. He is, however, perhaps best known by many for his commitment to supporting youth projects, predominantly across his home turf of London and Essex, through the trust that bears his name, The Jack Petchey Foundation.
The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in 1999 and has invested over £170 million to date to support youth projects across London and Essex. Sir Jack was a dedicated philanthropist who had a fundamental belief in the need to support young people and strongly believed that by rewarding success and helping young people feel positive about themselves and their role in society, they would have the confidence and the inspiration to reach their full potential.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends and to all of those working at the Jack Petchey Foundation during this very sad time. We owe a debt of gratitude to Sir Jack and the Jack Petchey Foundation for everything that they have done to support our young people and our leaders through his very popular Achievement Awards scheme, which has provided our County with hundreds of thousands of pounds in funding over many years. The Jack Petchey Foundation has assured us that the work of his Foundation, supporting and celebrating young people, will continue as Sir Jack's living legacy.
Please feel free to share this message widely and to leave a tribute to Sir Jack on the memory page that has been set up by the Jack Petchey Foundation our in-memory page.
Happy New Year everyone!
A huge thank you to all our tireless Leaders… all unpaid volunteers who give so much of their time and energy to run Scouts, Cubs and Beavers every week and more!
We’re so proud to receive HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Volunteering Award.
The award recognises the difference our volunteers make to young people’s lives and the brilliant support Scouts gave communities throughout the pandemic. https://bit.ly/3VezCCa
We’re deeply saddened by the death of Our Patron, HM The Queen. A dedicated supporter of Scouts, Her Majesty has been a peerless role model for our young people.
Our thoughts are with the Royal Family.

Why we need the Scouting movement now more than ever Two years ago I bribed my son into going to Scouts – yes that’s right I paid him £2. I’d spent months badgering him to go and he flatly refused so my only option was cold hard cash. Predictably after just one session he loved it and within two weeks he was setting off on his first camp. So wh...
