Last week, we managed to hit our 100-mile target for the sponsored swim.

As a school, we managed 60 miles on the swimathon day and we have been topping up the mileage ever since! A huge thank you to all of the Yarrells community for your efforts with this, whether you swam, sponsored, or supported your child.

We've even had children swimming many more lengths at home and children swimming lengths while on holiday!

Watching the children push themselves to raise as much money as possible and hit our target has been amazing.

I think it has really opened our eyes to how difficult the swims that Oly Rush puts himself through are!

What super stars the children all were! We enjoyed the most fabulous time at the and the children were so well behaved!

The baby otters were definitely a favourite but the children also marvelled at watching the seals, turtles, upside down jellyfish and sharks! We even touched a huge starfish!

A great day of tennis on Centre Court at Surbiton, including Harriet Dart and Daniel Evans playing and signing balls afterwards.

24/05/2024

On Wednesday, two of our Year 6 children Guy and Finnian travelled to Portland Harbour Andrew Simpson Centres to take part in the IAPS U11 Sailing competition.

Upon arrival, the children had to put their boat together and then compete against roughly 30 other boats in attendance.

The first race didn’t go as planned as the boys capsized, but they were fully in their stride for the final 3 races, and overall, they finished the competition in first place and took home gold medals!

What a fantastic achievement for the boys; we are all very proud of them.

“Today we unveiled officially the Upton in Bloom sign on the driveway into Yarrells. This sign is a symbol of the support of Yarrells for Upton In Bloom (Poole, Dorset) as they work towards the awards of South West in Bloom, South East in Bloom and ultimately, Britain in Bloom. Mr Hill as our Groundsman has been instrumental in fostering a love of gardening and horticulture amongst the Yarrells children, and Mrs Sharpe is the driving force behind all things Eco here!

The children here are very much involved in the running of the eco side of school and have a keen interest and enthusiasm for the natural world and protecting it for their generation to grow up in. Our upcoming World Ocean Day plans are a testament to that!”

Book Buddies

Following the success of our ‘Book Buddies’ event, which was part of our World Book Day celebrations in March, we decided to organise another.

‘Book Buddies’ is the opportunity for children to get together with another class in a different year group to share some reading.

This morning pupils are sharing books they have brought in or found in school.

During World Book Day, we loved seeing the older pupils’ nurturing attitudes towards the younger ones, as well as the excitement generated by the books they were reading together.

As part of our enthusiasm to foster a culture of reading or pleasure at Yarrells, this will become a regular and valued part of the school calendar.

The Eco Committee is excited to let you know about our plans for World Ocean Day at Yarrells on Tuesday 4th June.

We have set ourselves a challenge and will be working as a whole school to try and achieve this! The pupils are going to swim as many lengths of the pool (or widths for some of the younger pupils) as they can to see if COLLECTIVELY we can reach the 100 miles that Oly Rush swam when he swam the Jurassic Coast. Even the teachers are going to participate and swim after school to add to the total!

As well as keeping fit, we are doing this event to raise money and awareness of Oly's charity; Project Planet Earth. https://projectplanet.earth/about/ and our own 'Yarrells Eco project'.

Together, we really can make a difference in the world.

On Wednesday we took part in the u11 Bryanston Cricket Festival in their immaculate grounds.

For many of our children it was their first cricket game and they were able to show off a lot of the skills that we had been working on in lessons. The bowling on display was impressive, with most of the deliveries being straight at the wicket.

The children got more confident with the bat as the festival developed and were able to communicate whether to run or not. All children who took part were able to bat, bowl, field and keep wicket.

A lovely festival in the scorching sun! Well done all.

We have joined in with the RHS annual programme.

RHS Community Gardening Grow With It!

"Kicking off a year of water-wise growing, the RHS Big Seed Sow takes place Monday 29 April - Sunday 12 May, and this year it’s even bigger."

Each month, we will be keeping track and watching our water plants grow.

Thank you to Upton In Bloom (Poole, Dorset) for gifting us the 'Educational Pack'.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to Eddie Hayes, after 11 years as our Estates Manager.

I asked Eddie today, to share some of his ‘Moments and Memories’ with us:

“It is so hard to isolate specific events but firstly I love the estate, grounds and buildings, special places on in the grounds. I have loved being on the estate when no one else is, be it very late at night, early morning, or during the summer in the quiet of the early evenings.

I’ve loved the connection I have with the wildlife; the diminishing squirrel population may question this, however.

I have enjoyed the end-of-term buzz and the uncertainty of the first day as children return and new faces appear.

I have enjoyed the freedom I have experienced to pursue new projects and to initiate ideas, especially the hands-on part of my work.

I have valued, beyond measure, the friendships within the estates department and between the team. Not a day has gone past without a good laugh and never-ending banter.

I have enjoyed many friendships within the staff body and am grateful for each one.”

We wish Eddie all the best in his new role, you will be missed!

Writing Festival Winners!

A huge congratulations to Florence L (Year 2M) and Amelia T (Year 6BL) for their success at the@bournemouthwritingfestival competition.

Both pupils won their age category in the recent nature-themed contest for schools and home-educated children.

You will see the scale of the girls’ achievement from what Bournemouth Writing Festival organiser, Dominic, said below:

“The number of entries and quality was overwhelming - so much so we created a Highly Commended Award and organised more prizes. Sadly, not everyone can be a ‘winner’ so we really hope the competition inspired your imagination and thought about our wonderful natural surroundings here in Dorset."

We are incredibly proud of Florence and Amelia, and hope their success will be an inspiration to other pupils too.

Our annual skiing trip underpins our PSB (Pre-Senior Baccalaureate) core skills.

Skiing can be quite daunting to begin with; it was so lovely to see the children develop their confidence and show amazing resilience even when faced with a challenge!

It is a great opportunity to experience skiing with a group, whether you are an experienced skier or a beginner. As well as being good fun for the children to mix with others from across the school and make new friends, parents get to meet new people and it is a lovely social week for everyone.

Not only is skiing great fun and good physical exercise, but being in the mountains is wonderfully energising. I believe there are so many skills developed on this trip: communication, collaboration, resilience and independence to name but a few. They are put out of their comfort zone and learn to support each other and have a real sense of pride in their achievements by the end of the week.

Are you happy with your child’s primary school place allocation?

Having asked our current parents to describe the atmosphere at Yarrells, the words they have used are ‘happy’, ‘nurturing’ and ‘caring’ to name just a few. Each pupil’s personal, social, health and emotional development is carefully supported by a web of committed professionals.

We are proud to be a non-selective school and we welcome children with a wide range of aptitudes and abilities. We work incredibly hard to support and challenge our pupils so that their learning is exciting, stimulating and makes their brains ache – in a good way!

We have some Reception 2024 places remaining...

Meet Sebrina, and find out why she chose for her children.

“Yarrells is so much more than a school, it’s a way of life, it really is a community.

It is Yarrells life as a lot of us call it!

As busy working parents we can go to work and not worry about our children as they are in such good hands, that’s the most important thing to us. All the teachers are so in-tune with the students and have such positive relationships.”

Experience the “magic” of Yarrells

Small classes. Outstanding results. High quality teaching. Broad curriculum. Affordable excellence.

Education has all too often become about testing, achieving targets, and statistics. But your child is an individual – ready to learn and flourish in ways that are unique and special to them. And that is what Yarrells does best.

With small classes, Yarrells offers a nurturing and happy environment that enables your son or daughter to grow as an individual, whether joining the Greenwood Nursery, in Reception or further up the school.

Strong early years teaching helps build vital reading and writing skills, whilst developing the confidence in learning that will be the bedrock of your child’s future education. From the outset, they have specialist teachers in French, music, dance, drama and sport. As thoughts start to turn towards secondary schools, from the age of nine your son or daughter will be taught by specialist teachers in every subject, ensuring the best possible learning.
