Thinking of moving abroad to take up a role in SEN?

In his article, featured in this month’s SEN Magazine Ltd, Real Training iSENCO tutor, Matthew Lee, gives his advice to anyone thinking of supporting children with special educational needs in international schools.

Matt has held senior leadership positions focusing on inclusion at award-winning international schools so he knows a thing or two about SEN roles abroad.

Six things we learned from Matt:

📌 Do your homework - international schools are more nuanced in their ways of working
📌 SEN provision varies considerably based on school type
📌 Parents will be informed by local beliefs and cultural attitudes towards SEN (so make sure you are aware of these)
📌 There is a greater range of need in mainstream international schools than in the UK
📌 Para-professionals and shadow models are more likely to be present
📌 It’s really important to build your online network of SEND professionals
