Introducing the 2024 Gardens for Good Causes!

Project Giving Back will support 15 gardens for good causes at RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show 2024, including seven show gardens and two sanctuary gardens announced by the RHS today. All gardens supported by PGB will live on after the show in permanent locations around the UK as a lasting legacy for their individual good causes - as teaching gardens, community spaces and other beneficial green spaces.

The show and sanctuary (indicated with *) gardens supported by Project Giving Back in 2024 are:
-Freedom from Torture Garden: Growing With Hope*, designed by John Warland & Emma Oā€™Connell
-Muscular Dystrophy UK Forest Bathing Garden, designed by Ula Maria
-National Autistic Society Garden, designed by Sophie Parmenter & Dido Milne
-National Garden Scheme Garden, designed by Tom Stuart-Smith
-St James's Church, Piccadilly ā€˜Imagine the world to be differentā€™ Garden, designed by Robert Myers
-Stroke Association Garden for Recovery, designed by Miria Harris

A further six All About Plants gardens will be supported by Project Giving Back in 2024 that will again be staged in the Great Pavilion and largely created by first time Chelsea designers. These will be announced by RHS - Royal Horticultural Society in January 2024.

The tranquil and peaceful riverside garden at The Manor, Hemingford Grey is open on Sunday 10th September 11-5, admission Ā£6, children free.

10 original Edwardian gardens are linked to central wild woodland water garden focusing on Bin Brook with small lake at heart of site.

This gives a feeling of park and informal woodland, while at the same time keeping the sense of older more formal gardens beyond.

Central area has a wide lawn running down to the lake framed by many mature stately trees with much of the original planting intact.

The Community garden at Hilton was established in 2021, with the help of a grant from the National Garden Scheme

Find out more by visiting this Sun 2nd July 12-5 when it is open along with 6 other wonderful gardens in Hilton.

In 2022 the National Garden Scheme gave out grants to 76 projects bringing the total number of projects supported to-date to almost 200, with the total amount donated just shy of Ā£400,000

Grant applications for 2023 are now closed but check back in the Autumn to see about applications for next year.

King's College Fellows' Garden and Provost's Garden
Queen's Road, Cambridge is open Sun 2nd July 12-4pm and not 9th July as in booklet.

Fine example of a Victorian garden with rare specimen trees.

Rond Pont entrance leads to a small woodland walk, herbaceous and sub-tropical borders, rose pergola, kitchen/allotment garden and orchard.

The Provostā€™s garden opens with kind permission, offering a rare glimpse of an Arts and Crafts design. Chance to view the new wildflower meadow created on the former Great Lawn.

Oak Tree Farm is opening as part of an exciting new group opening in Hilton this Sunday 2nd July 12-5.

Oak Tree Farm is a traditional English country garden with well established herbaceous beds with more than a hint of wonderland.

There are 6 gardens opening for the 1st time for The National Garden Scheme. The village of Hilton has a turf maze, first cut in 1660 and a parish church dating back to the C12. Both of these will be open to visit. The magnificent village green of 27 acres will be walked across, via the Platinum Jubilee ā€œQueenā€™s Green Canopyā€ to reach the Community Garden which was established in February 2021.

Highsett Cambridge

Several delightful town gardens will be open to view in this well known housing complex within central Cambridge.

Set in large communal grounds with fine specimen trees, many 70+ years old, and lawns. A haven for children and wildlife.

Architect Eric Lyons planned the whole estate in the late 1950ā€™s with a mixture of flats, small houses and large town houses, the very ethos of tranquil living space for all generations.

Several of the open gardens have been skilfully modernised by garden designers.

Sawston Gardens is open this Sun 2nd July 1-5pm.

Five gardens in this large South Cambs. village.

11 Mill Lane is an attractive C16/C19 house with an impressive semi-circular front lawn edged with roses and mixed borders, and a secluded sun-dappled garden at the rear.

34 Cambridge Road features a long rear garden, with meticulously maintained lawns, colourful borders, mature trees and shrubs, small pond and fruit and vegetable plots.

The 2 acre Mary Challis Garden has a tranquil setting in the heart of the village, with extensive lawns, wildflower meadow, herbaceous borders, orchard, vegetable beds, vinehouse and beehives.

10 Wynemares presents colourful and creative plantings in a small developing garden.

New to this group of gardens, 11 Chamois Close was designed with wildlife in mind aiming to attract variety of birds, pollinators and pond life. It has two different planting schemes in the north and south facing borders. There are also a couple of different seating areas to enjoy all the visiting wildlife.

Westley Waterless Gardens, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 0RL are open this Sun 25th June 2-5pm

Church Lane House is just under an acre in size, comprising a wildlife pond, herbaceous borders, cut flowers, dye plants, orchard wildflower meadow, Victorian style greenhouse and kitchen garden, plus chickens, guinea pigs and bees.

This is a family friendly garden with plenty of seating areas to take in the views.

Church View is a country garden which inc a small flower farm. There are many old fashioned scented roses, both shrub and climbing plus herbaceous borders, raised growing beds and 2 polytunnels.

The garden inc a wildlife pond and flowering plant-filled pots. The farm growing area changes season by season.
