The first ever mycelium plinths featured on a fashion shoot ! πŸ„
We are so proud here at Osmose Studio that our commitment to sustainability can seamlessly be adapted to different disciplines.
For our upcoming AW collection release in February, our co-founder and mycelium specialist Ashley Granter has been making some incredible mycelium sculptures. .
Each of these "grown" columns use organic waste combined with our little fungi friend that create a solid network of cells until we can de-mould these chunky and rather astonishing creations.
We have let these grow up to a point where some mushroom fruit bodies are actually an integral part of the design..
Interested in sourcing these ?
We manufacture them on-demand - drop us a DM and have a fun(gi) day !

Freshwater pearls are essentially anomalies ??!!
Pearls only exist because - by absolute chance - a minuscule asperity lodges itself in an oyster. The oyster reacts to this alien body by layering a secretion over and over again to protect itself. And the pearl is created....
Now us humans have learnt how to repeat this process on a maalssive scale. That's why I only use second hand or deadstock pearls so that these beauties can have a second life and it is less exploitative of our biodiversity.
Grab some of these styles by DM or head to our website in the bio !
Which one is your fav ?

C O N S E R V A T I O N
-----------------------
"There is in fact a certain codependency attached to the practice of biodesign, where the designer (being who is by essence cultural) depends on variables purely outside his or her control. This codependency translates into a co-modification of Nature that opens up to a new interspecies dialogue of observation similar to Aristotle’s original idea of the contemplation of Nature. For the biodesigner, it is not a question of rationalizing an inert living kingdom, but rather a sentient one, which always proves to us that it has been autonomous for millennia.
The life-cycle that can caracterise the action of the biodesigner over the living thus radically differenciates itself from the traditional cradle-to-grave system in a more circular and less finite system."

In Bio-conception : the struggle of an identity in the making, Fontan A., 2020

We have been travelling across solar systems and galaxies and we have learnt a lot about exoplanets ecosystems - how they function, how they interact.
In a mission to explore, collect, gather and study alien life forms to formulate symbiotic wearables, I have recreated biomes in my habitat and extracted the mutually beneficial characteristics of organisms I am able to incorporate into my design work.
The work is far from over but I am looking forward to sharing this one year autarky simulation with you all...
Stay tune for mission launch 🌏🌌

Work in progress >>>>
This new collection explores the idea of the fashion artefact as interactive wearable between human and non-human, a biomorphic camouflage for speculative ecosystems renewing our approach to biodiversity and creating new relationships to our environment.
Through a holistic approach to fashion artefacts we can unveil possible futuresπŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ”¬

Can fashion transcend human relationships to ecosystems ?
There is a lot wrong with fashion but there is also a lot of incredible innovation done to rectify our exploitation of biomes and ecosystems. Fostering biodesign thinking is the key to our understanding of natural processes and how they can be mutually beneficial to us and to the organisms that surround us.
This new fashion project is taking us beyond the technological abilities we have now, to speculate on the potential for adaptive manufacturing, bio-fabrication and evolutive wearables.
Make the journey towards the near-possibleπŸ§ͺ

Currently designing the next fashion project for this year (yes we’re officially leaving the 1800s behind), we are diving into the surreal extraterrestrial world of our beloved exoplanets.
Be ready for departure....

Before we dive back into our futuristic and extrasolar fashion design experience that will be our next collection, we wanted to share these additional pics of our collaboration with the British Fashion Council and Netflix UK for the Bridgerton series.
Amazing Adjoa Andoh and Phoebe Dynevor rocking our Couture looks custom made with mentoring by Richard Quinn.
A big thank you to for the creative collaboration.
