The Bonsai garden and museum at lake Merritt is one of the largest and finest collections of Bonsai in the US.

During the night of the 17th January 2024 eight specimen Bonsai with an estimated value of $20,000 were stolen from the displayed collection. As part of a security upgrade, BGLM will be using and installing BON-TAG Identification & Theft Deterrent Security System utilising RFID microchip technology to provide positive identification & traceability for each for each individual specimen Bonsai in the collection.
