Ok ladies, I’ve been getting my geek on so a tad excited to share what I’ve learned so far 🤓📚

Now, I’m all about growing old gracefully and being grateful to reach each birthday. But can we agree that slowing down the physical process can often have a more positive impact on our overall health, wellbeing and self esteem?

🤓What is collagen? Collagen is the main structural protein in the extracellular matrix found in the body's various connective tissues. As the main component of connective tissue, it is the most abundant protein in mammals, making up from 25% to 35% of the whole-body protein content.

🤓So where is collagen found? About 90% of the collagen in the body is type 1, which is found in the skin, tendons, internal organs and organic parts of bone.

🤓What happens to collagen as we age? From about the age of 25 we start naturally producing 1-2% less each year. Environmental factors like UV exposure, smoking, air pollution and lifestyle can cause the acceleration of this essential protein breaking down.

🤓Why does that matter? As a protein that essentially holds things together, it’s deminishing integrity means weakening is occurring. This is physically seen in ageing spots, sagging skin, dull or dehydrated skin, slower wound healing capabilities of the skin, weaker hair and hair growth, weaker nails etc etc….

🤓What can be done to reverse some of these effects and slow down the process? Drink more water 💦 Glycosaminoglycons help collagen proteins retain moisture in order to aid proper functioning of the protein. Hyaluronic acid is what helps this moisture retaining process.
