"Is is hard work to keep a Broadleaf floor looking showroom beautiful?" we hear you ask. The answer is "easily" thanks to our high-performance finishes and specially formulated maintenance products.

Caring for our wood flooring is very similar to looking after tile or natural stone. Simply sweep or vacuum to remove dust and grit, then wash with our nourishing Wood Floor Cleaner. Designed to feed the floor finish as it cleans, this maintains resistance and doesn't dry out or strip the natural oils like more aggressive mass produced floor cleaning products designed for varnished or lacquered floors.

Follow from time to time with our quick and easy Wood Floor Wax to restore lustre, fix small scratches and protect your floor finish from day to day wear and tear.

It really is as simple as that, and you can pick up Wood Floor Cleaner and Wax from our showrooms or order them on our website - link in bio.

If you have any questions on looking after our wood floors, or about their durability, do pop them in the comments or drop us a message.

Herringbone is a classic parquet design that we'll always love, but it certainly isn’t the only choice available.

This beautiful ladder design is a more contemporary style that works beautifully in less traditional interiors like this elegant Italian hotel, Rome. It gives our Aged Oak Vintage Parquet a timeless retro feel that marries perfectly with the architecture of the building and the sleek designer décor.

We thought we'd share a little bit of interesting history about the origin and purpose of parquet borders (because who doesn't love learning random trivia that might help in a pub quiz when you least expect it...!).

Parquet borders were originally designed as a decorative detail to embellish the edges of the first parquet floors laid in great houses at a time when rooms were much more sparsely furnished than we are used to.

As time went on, they were also used to subtly signpost which areas of the house were private. Rooms into which guests were invited to enter had borders that ran through the doorway from one room to another. Private rooms, or those leading 'below stairs', had borders that ran across the doorway to signify no entry.

This simple, subtle and effective way to direct guests might hail from C17th, but it can still be a really useful design tool today, and parquet borders remain a brilliant way to create beautiful design details.

If you'd like any advice on using parquet borders, you can pop into one of our showrooms, message us, or drop your question into the comments below. We'd love to hear from you.

We're often asked how practical wood flooring is and the answer really lies in the quality of finish. This often isn't something you can see without an expert eye, but it is something you can try before you buy.

That's why we always recommend ordering samples and testing their quality and performance for yourself. Mimic a wine or tea spill, let mucky hands play with them or test them under paws.

We use the same professional finish for all of our floors, be they for busy family homes or large commercial hotels or bars. We don't claim that they're bomb proof, but they are water repellent, stain resistant and designed to cope with modern family living with minimal maintenance.

You can order samples of all of our beautiful wood flooring over on our website. If you've got any questions about looking after our wood floors, do pop them in the comments or drop us a message.

There is a depth to the rich tones of our Vintage Smoked Oak Parquet that is inherently indulgent and luxurious.

Created by a clever natural reaction with the tannins in the timber rather than staining, the colour penetrates beyond the surface into the oak. Every piece is a slightly different hue following its natural tones, so the resulting floor tone is sophisticated, multi-tonal and inviting.

It's one of our favourite recommendations for dining rooms, entrances or offices, be they residential or commercial, because of the way it adds intimacy, elegance and warmth.

Did you know that you can use our beautiful wood floors to make a room appear longer, wider and larger than it actually is ?

Laying planks parallel to the longest wall of a rooms will elongate the space and create an open, expansive feel. Laying them diagonally will not only create a visually pleasing design feature, it will also make a room feel wider.

One of our favourite ways to make a space feel larger is by using our impressive Extra Wide planks. Their 300mm width means fewer planks, which makes things feel simple, streamlined and overall more spacious.

Most of our floors are available in Extra Wide Boards - pop over to the website to view all of the different styles and finishes, or visit one of our showrooms. This one is Natural from our Nuances Collection.

Alongside our beautiful wood flooring, Broadleaf also design and make beautiful solid oak exterior doors. Each is traditionally hand-built by our expert joiners in our workshops in Wales, from carefully selected sustainable timber and made-to-measure as standard. You can choose to have them with or without a frame, or side panels, in different classic designs or you own.

This is The Manoir - an impressive arched head front door that's internally ledged so that it looks the same from the front and back. This is unusual for a solid timber door, but the simple, majestic result if definitely worth the effort, as are the hand carved quarter lights which sit above the door within the frame.

You can order our exterior doors sanded ready to finish on-site before fitting, or we can make your life easier by finishing them in our workshops.

To find out more about our external doors, head over to our website or visit your nearest Broadleaf showroom.

A common question we're asked is whether you can fit wood flooring the day it's delivered.
The short answer is no. Wood is hygroscopic, which means it responds to changes in temperature and humidity and needs to acclimatise to the conditions in its new home before being installed to prevent abnormal movement afterwards.
Ideally, acclimatise your flooring for 7-14 days in the room where it will be fitted, and if not in one with similar conditions. This should be sealed, dry and heating.

Unwrap it and lattice (criss cross) stack it so air can circulate around the planks or blocks. This will help it to acclimatise evenly.

If you've got any questions about wood flooring or how to install it for the best results, pop them in the comments below, message us, or get in touch with one of our showrooms. We're always happy to share our expertise.

Aside from being a beautiful design feature in their own right, they're also durable, practical, and can certainly be used in homes with busy little feet and paws running around. Every block is finished with the same high-performance hardwax oil we use for high-traffic commercial projects, so they are well equipped to withstand the test of family life.

A very pleasant surprise at Clerkenwell Design Week was the excitement caused by our stand floor; an eye-catching kaleidoscope of colour and texture created from our trend-leading Vintage Parquet collections made here in the UK.

We've had lots of questions about this floor since, so we through we'd answer a few here:

1) Can you mix any combination of your Vintage Parquet colours?
Yes - from a subtle combination of mid tones to create an easy reclaimed style, or a dramatic combination of black and white for dramatic impact.

2) Can you lay Vintage Parquet in patterns other than herringbone ?
Yes - these classically proportioned blocks can be laid in brickwork, basketweave and ladder designs, as well as more contemporary double herringbone.

3) Is Vintage Parquet solid or engineered?
Our Vintage Parquet is made from sustainably sourced solid European Oak. It can be fitted everywhere our engineered parquet can, including over underfloor heating.

4) Do you do other sizes of Vintage Parquet?
Yes - we also do a larger block, in all the same colours and styles.

5) Can you make planks to match Vintage Parquet?
Yes - if you want border planks, or planks in the same style and finishes for other rooms, that's not a problem.

If you have other questions about our Vintage Parquet Collections feel free to pop them in the comments below, or get in touch. Samples, contact and showroom details are available on the website via the link in our bio or you can message us.

Laying parquet flooring in a double herringbone pattern creates a slightly more modern feel, perfect for mid century style or for bridging the gap between modern architecture and timeless elegance. Here it ticks all three boxes, with our classic Natural Vintage Oak Parquet which is gently distressed to give it an authentic years old feel from day one.

To everyone who came to see us thank you. It was great to see so many old friends and make so many new ones. Our stand floor it seems was one of the stars of the show, photographed almost constantly from inside and out and from almost every angle. A random mix of the all of the 41 shades of Vintage Parquet the currently grace our collections, it was designed to be fun and fabulous, but also to showcase how modern and versatile this classic design can be, and our versatility as a British manufacturer. If you didn’t make it to the stand, but would like to know more about our services for designers and specifiers. Or any of our collections, drop us a message or comment below, and we’ll be happy to help. Happy bank holiday to all.

As manufacturers, innovation and design are central to what we do.

Over the years we've been proudly responsible for many industry-leading firsts, including solid flooring for underfloor heating, reproduction reclaimed flooring, a raft of textures and colours, and our award-winning all Strata Engineered Oak Flooring.

Unlike most engineered flooring Strata is made entirely from Oak, which not only makes it super stable, but means it has the same kudos and resonance as traditional solid oak boards with no compromise. It is also even more sustainable, as it's core and base layers are made from timber which would otherwise be considered waste, and almost certainly burned.

With the world's current focus on sustainability, you'd be forgiven for imagining Strata is a new innovation, but in fact we first introduced it back in 2007.

All of our beautiful plank finishes are available in a Strata board, giving you huge creative scope whatever your style. Visit our website to find our more, or to browse our collections and order samples.

Quality is genuinely at the heart of everything we do at Broadleaf. There are plenty of short cuts that we could take to make our wood flooring cheaper, but they would also reduce quality, which is why we don't take them.

Our timber is patiently air dried, precisely kiln-dried, and expertly pre-planed to guarantee our floors are as stable as possible and can be graded and machined with optimum precision.

Every floor we produce passes through many expert hands, and each detail from humidity to colour is methodically checked and approved before it leaves our factory.

Some of this quality can be difficult to see in pictures, but as you touch, walk on and wear our floors it speaks for itself - as does the fact that so many of our clients recommend us and return again and again.

Time to bust a myth about light wood floors: that they're more fragile and difficult to care for than darker options. With a Broadleaf floor, this is simply not the case.

Like all of our beautiful wood floors, those in lighter tones are finished with a professional natural hardwax oil that is water repellent, stain resistant and designed for modern living. It's easy to care for and should you need to refurbish it it can be simply re-applied without sanding off the original finish.

And you don't have to take our word for it - you can order a free sample from the website and give it a test for yourself, or pop into one of our showrooms and see how the floors look after being walked on by all of our lovely customers.

Lighter shades of wood flooring are an effective and simple way to bring a sense of calm, space and natural luxury to an interior.

Pale tones show off the natural grain of the timber subtly creating a relaxed mood, and make the room feel bigger and brighter. They are also wonderfully versatile and makes a great base for a wide range of design styles and colour schemes.

We carry an enviable spectrum of lighter wood flooring options from reclaimed and rustic to elegant and contemporary in style. You can browse by colour on our website or using the colour guide in our brochure, so it’s easier than ever to find and shortlist your favourites.

When a wood floor is treated with specially calibrated wire brushes, it develops a beautiful patina similar to that created by the passage of many feet over time. This authentic ageing adds depth and character to the floor and gives it a more natural and traditional appearance.

To make the floors in our Brushed & Burned collection we combine a series of brushing techniques with a unique burning process that ages the surface of the timber from edge to centre. The result are beautifully aged boards with a years old feel that is instantly at home with period architecture and brings timeless style to contemporary interiors.

Venturosa, pictured above, is brushed more deeply than some of the other floors in this collection – it brings out more grain texture and creates a floor that looks almost like driftwood.

To border or not to border, that is the question.

There's no wrong or right answer, it's truly down to your own personal preference, but there are a few key things to consider before deciding.

1. Additional cost. Adding a border will make fitting a parquet floor more complicated and more expensive.

2. Visibility and impact. In our opinion, borders look absolutely fabulous but you need to think about what you will add on top of the floor. If you end up covering your borders with furniture or rugs, they may get lost and lose their impact.

3. Design. There are all sorts of exciting options to choose from. You can do them in plank or parquet, to match or contrast the rest of the floor, with or without tramlines, to be subtle or eye-catching, the possibilities are endless.

If you'd like to have a chat with one of our expert team about parquet borders, please do get in touch with your local Broadleaf showroom. You can also pop your questions in the comments below and we'll get back to you.

One of the best things about designing and making wood floors is the choice and flexibility we can offer our clients. We aren't limited by what someone else has decided is 'on trend' or by how many options we can stock, we can simply create as many floors as we want, and make them as needed.

We can also vary our floors to meet individual requirements, so if you love a plank colour but wanted parquet, want your floor to be a bit less rustic than our standard option, prefer matt to matt satin, or a bit less texture, please ask, as normally this is quite straightforward and has minimal impact on price or lead time (which for most of our floors is just 2-3 weeks).

We can also design entirely bespoke floors to match or mimic existing, or to meet a particular design brief, and do frequently, for both residential and commercial projects.

To discuss your project with a member of our team, please give your nearest Broadleaf showroom a call or drop us a message or a comment below.

In the world of wood flooring, 'grade' is used to define the extent of natural variation, which is key to how the floor will look once it's laid. Floors with more natural variation will have larger knots and a more rustic style, whilst those with less will have a more uniform tone, smaller knots and a more elegant feel.

There are no standard grades, so each manufacturer defines their own. Many have only two, but we have 4 so that we can create floors with a more clearly defined style. They cover the spectrum of styles from truly rustic to terribly elegant -swipe through below to discover Railway, Cottage, Elegance & Gallery.

All of our floors are designed on one of these grades, but as we make them here in the UK, if you'd prefer them on a different one we can usually oblige - speak to a member of our team by giving one of our showrooms a call to find out more, and tell us which is your favourite in the comments below.

Did you know that as well as beautiful wood flooring we also make traditionally hand crafted external doors ? We believe that doors are one of the most important architectural features of any building and an impressive traditional front door can completely transform any building.

All of our external doors are hand built in our workshops with unrivalled care and attention by expert joiners. Each one is made to measure in carefully selected, sustainable timber so it is truly unique and will add character, style and luxury to any property.

This is our Chateau, an impressive and period-inspired design built from solid French Oak and featuring an authentic Tudor arched head. It's elegantly reeded on the face and framed and ledged on the rear. Striking the perfect balance between elegant and rustic, it's a majestic front door that looks especially good set against natural stone as here.
