It’s primrose heaven this week on the nursery! Sales have been consistently strong so far this year but with the warm weather this week has seen a significant uplift in volumes heading into garden centres. These photos show a range of our double flowered Rubén’s series along with some more novelty varieties such as sunny side up, zebra blue, Marmalade and the Sparkly series in packs.
I’m addition to these, we continue to dispatch Pansies, Violas plus the standard primrose range of four packs, 10.5cm pots and 3 litre Showstopper series.
To today we welcomed our local MP Ester McVey to the nursery. We were able to discuss many ongoing issues which impact small businesses and more industry specific problems with her. The topics discussed include labour availability and the season worker’s scheme, the peat debate and the current economic climate.

We sadly announce that Les Halman passed away peacefully on March 18th at the age of 74 following a long illness. He was cared for at home by his wife Mavis until his final few days.
Born into a market gardening family in Whythenshaw, Manchester in April 1947, his entire life was centred around horticulture and running the family nursery. Les studied initially part time at Reaseheath College before completing a full time course at The Welsh College of Horticulture followed be Pershore College where he completed his NDH in horticulture.
Les met his future wife Mavis through a mutual acquaintance in November 1964 and they were married in April 1969.
Les and Mavis took over the running of the nursery in 1971 from his father Jack. They continued to run the business and thrived on the challenges involved in the expansion of the nursery due to the popularity of garden centres and the demand for automation in order to keep up with an ever expanding product range. He continued to work in the business until retirement in 2020. The business continues under Les’s son Stuart and daughter-in-law Gill.
Les leaves his wife Mavis, two children, Stephanie and Stuart and two grandchildren, tom and Rebecca.
His funeral will take place on Wednesday March 30th at 11.30. St. Oswalds church, lower Peover.
Due to colleagues wishing to attend the service, deliveries on Wednesday 30th may be disrupted.
Steph and Sophie Buckley have had a busy day today presenting training videos for a customer. They have been explaining to colleagues in stores how to safely handle Danish trollies and the best techniques for plant care to extend shelf life.
It’s great to have dispatch buzzing again! Lots of bright and vibrant products which are heading out next week.
This is the final holly wreath delivery for 2022. Well over 10,000 wreaths plus posey pads and grave pots have been delivered over the past 4 weeks.
A huge thanks go to everyone here plus all of our amazing customers. Have a happy, prosperous and, most importantly, safe Christmas break.
We’re busy with holly wreath production at the moment! Demand is far outstripping supply so we’re struggling to keep up with the orders. Looking forward to doing some less prickly work😃!!
It’s Christmas tree week!! It’s the first time we’ve sold trees and we’ve been amazed by the response we have received! Over 7,000 potted trees are heading to their new homes next week.
