You Are Loved - Emily Roussell
Kicking off Infant Massage Awareness Week 2022 just as we do our trainings and our classes - with honour to our ancestors and to its cultural heritage. We do not claim to have invented Infant Massage, far from it. Infant Massage is a tradition in many countries throughout the world, usually passed down through the generations. Our Founder, Vimala McClure, sought to introduce massage worldwide having witnessed its beauty and the far-reaching benefits first hand during her travels in the 1970s. With love and respect to its origins, the IAIM mission is to promote nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research; so parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community.
Thank you so much Kimberley Nixon] for sharing & raising awareness ❤️🙏 (read caption ⬇️)

Talk more. Normalise it. ❤️

If the room where your baby sleeps is really warm, lighter bedding and clothing such as a low tog sleeping bag or a thin sheet can be a good choice to keep your baby from getting too hot. Baby sleeping bags advise what tog to use for each season or temperature, so that can be handy to use as a guide.
However, every baby is different and it’s important to keep an eye on them for signs of overheating. Feel your baby’s chest or the back of their neck (your baby’s hands and feet will usually be cooler, which is normal). If your their skin is hot or sweaty, remove one or more layers of bedclothes or bedding. In really hot weather it’s fine for your baby to sleep in a short sleeve vest or just a nappy.

☀️PRAM COVERS☀️
When you're out and about in this lovely weather it's important to keep your baby cool and out of direct sun. Stay in the shade as much as possible.
Do not cover your baby’s pram with blankets or cloths as this could cause your baby to become too hot. Instead, use a parasol or shade to protect your baby from the sun, but make sure that air can circulate and you are still able to see your baby and monitor their temperature.
If you're worried your baby is getting too hot, check their temperature by feeling their chest or back of their neck, if their skin feels clammy, this is a sign they are getting too hot.
Unfortunately we cannot comment on individual products. We encourage parents to check that any product they use has passed the necessary safety check and contact the manufacturer directly with any questions.
Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, dedicated to drawing attention to essential mental health concerns for mothers and families.
The day is part of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, organised and led by the Perinatal Mental Health Partnership (PMHP). They are dedicated to signposting to support for all mums and families and focus on advocating for those affected by Maternal Mental Health, to access the information and help they require to enable recovery.
Around 1/5 of enquiries to the The Breastfeeding Network Drugs in Breastmilk information service relate to mental health concerns, and safe medications that can be taken while breastfeeding. The good news is, there are many medications which are safe - you should not have to choose between your mental health and breastfeeding your child. You can find factsheets on the safety of antidepressants and other mental health medications on our website, here:
https://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-factsheets/
If you can't find the information you require, or you have further questions, please send a private message to the Drugs in Breastmilk page (link above), or email [email protected]. One of our trained pharmacy team will get back to you as soon as possible.
If you need further support, please speak up - you are not alone. Speak to your GP, midwife, health visitor, or a friend or family member. Help is available, and talking to someone is the first crucial step. If you want to talk about breastfeeding, call the National Breastfeeding Helpline UK to speak to someone who's been there and can offer support and information.
Newborn babies brains grow to full size faster than any other part of the body, using about 50% of their energy intake 😲🧠 (an adult's brain uses 25% of their energy!)
Whilst their brains are growing in those first few months, the basic understanding of language is growing too 🥰
Babies have the ability to hear the sounds of different languages and tune into the ones they hear most 👏
So it's a no brainer (pardon the pun) that the more you talk to them, the more they begin to understand how language works 🙌

Beside her is a book titled “Banish mum guilt!”. Her toddler sits on the floor looking happy & content eating a biscuit whilst watching CBeebies. If you've never breastfed in public before, it can be a bit nerve-wracking...especially if it's freezing and you're wearing three jumpers. Check out our guidance to make it as stress-free as possible:
http://bit.ly/BFpublic
And rest assured that whether you're heading to a carol concert or just out for some Christmas shopping, you're legally entitled to feed wherever you are. In England and Wales, your right to breastfeed in public is covered by The Equality Act 2010. In Scotland, breastfeeding is covered by The Breastfeeding etc. (Scotland) Act 2005, which makes it a criminal offence to try to stop or prevent anyone from breastfeeding in a public place.
Why do babies cry? 8 reasons your baby might be crying Babies, especially newborns, cry so much when they are very young. It doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong - crying is one of the main ways babies communicate their needs early on.
A baby cannot self-soothe, show your baby you are there for them x

Today is World Prematurity Day. World Prematurity Day is observed to raise awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide. Approximately 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all babies born worldwide.
A baby's cry is communication that you need to listen to and interpret. Don't let anyone tell you not to pick up your baby.
