Making faux flowers look realistic is an art. It takes skill. Not only do you have to use the right flowers you have to know how to create with them. It is not just a case of getting some artificial flowers & putting them together. There is a process and a theory.⁠

You see, in nature flowers come in various sizes and they vary for bud to full bloom & beyond. They all have their characteristics & when creating with fresh flowers we can use these differences in our designs to our advantage.⁠

So when I plan my work I do so like a fresh flower florist. I create a recipe, a colour palette & have an idea of the shape, form and lines my design will have.⁠

But I add an extra layer of detail.⁠

I think about the size of the flower heads & the stages of growth & how they develop. By taking these considerations in account I apply it to my creations to elevate my designs.⁠

17 days of making memories, resetting, visiting family & friends, paying our respects & contemplating our plans for the next chapter.

Today I’ve been running around collect Atlas & Cosmo from the cattery, collecting various pets & recouping after the chaos at Heathrow Airport last night.

Although my heritage doesn’t lie in this island my husbands & kids do. Over the years it has been imprinted on my heart and I have a deep connection & love with the place. We are always met with kindness and every time we explore we find something new.

Famagusta is a beautiful, somewhere my husband spent many summers during his childhood. His family have ties to the old city that lies within castle walls, literally. With various entrances, one where you drive across the moat that has long dried up. It’s sounds almost unreal but it really does exist.

Every time we go we visit Othello Tower, the namesake of Shakespeares play, reminiscing of the previous visits when the kids were younger, recreating photos, seeing how much they have grown.

This year we discovered a new ancient hammam, just before we left to catch our flight home. It was a delight.

We walked along the crystal clear shorelines, enjoyed the beaches alongside, visiting various archaeological places, watching sky acrobatics of the Turkish Stars as they manoeuvred their jets within metres of each other.

I am very grateful to have been able to take this trip. But its location and what’s going on around us didn’t leave my mind. Just across the water the unthinking and most heinous acts have been taking place for 300 days now. May their souls rest in peace, may our eyes not be closed to the wickedness, the suffering 🍉

I am now recharged & raring to go, full steam ahead for our weddings and events over the next 4 months 💜💪🏼

Giving back to the community is something I’ve done for many years. The last 14 years of my voluntary work has been in the education sector. I have sat on many boards across Thurrock and Southend, in a number of roles spanning both Primary & Secondary education.

It really does bring me immense satisfaction and joy to be able to impact and support thousands of children and hundreds of staff over the years. I’ve worked shoulder to shoulder with wonderful fellow Governors & now Trustees who have been such a core part of what we do.

It is no secret that schools are being asked to do more and more with budgets that do not match the requirements. Children need far more support than just what the curriculum holds but to nurture and support them and their families in different aspects and challenges of life.

So last night it really was a great privilege to have been invited to the end of year Confederation of School Trusts event at the House of Lords. To meet and chat with various people from all over the UK who work in education. What was apparent was that no matter where they had travelled from their concerns of how the next chapter of education may look like was virtually the same.

But as always, we will navigate what lies ahead, centring our school communities at the heart of what we do.

👋🏼I've got to tell you the truth. I used to be on here all the time but here's why I've not been seen 👇🏼

I fell out of love with this space. Like we have issues. It's like if you don't tow the line and behave as if everything is rosey then you get pushed to the back of the queue for being too opinionated. Too vocal, not on the platforms brand with pushing distractions so people don't see the wider picture of what going on around the world.

That's not my jam.

But here's the quandary, this space does play a part in business. To reach audiences, engage with your community (as long you stick to the rules) and find new people.

So what do you do? Compromise your ethics & morals to advance up the algo?

Sorry. I can't do that.

I just hope that those who want to connect with a brand that is open, honest, with ethical & moral values will find us. Who want to work with brands who care about the world we live in, the future is our children and the dignity and peace of others.

We recently had a wedding for a beaut of a couple. Loved adding a pop of colour, the orange was spot on.

With table arrangements to match, bringing a seamless look together. When I saw the newlyweds they shared how people didn’t realise they flowers weren’t real.

I will always be grateful when hearing words like this.

Sourcing takes a huge part of my time, I pride myself not just on using great products but working in a different way to most faux florists.

For me, It’s not a fashion item but a link to my heritage & the women that came before me. 💜

I was 18 when I got my nose pierced, I remember people saying how cool it was, rebellious even but for me it connected me to my culture & as a mixed race woman, that in itself has & continues to be a journey of discovery.

I grew up with women around me with nose piercings & as a child I would see them dress up on special occasions & how they would change their nose stud to something more fancy. I wanted to be like my Nan & my great grandmother, from the little but vivid memories I have of her.

Nose piercings are linked to many cultures, not just those of South Asian decent but (and not exclusively) people from the Middle East, Africa, South America & First Nations People.

I recently changed my piercing to a ring, which I haven’t worn for about 15 years & before then on my wedding day.

I looked in the mirror & fondly remembered my grandmother & her sisters too. They may not be here anymore but it’s a symbol of something that connects us.

For many it’s a statement & that’s ok. But for me it carries the stories and the strength of the women of colour that came before me & I wear it with pride 💜

It also serves as a reminder that people are all different & the way in which we share parts of who we are can come in various forms.

So the nose ring will stay for now, it has given me an unexpected feeling of warmth, which I am finding quite comforting.

🌟Never underestimate what you are capable of 🌟On the 27th November 2017 my phone went into meltdown as Theo retweeted me as one of his business winners. I had set out in 2017 that this year I was going to win one of these coveted places and join the SBS Family.

I applied a few times at the beginning of the year and wasn’t successful. I then got sidetracked in everything else I was doing and didn’t enter for months. As we hit 26th November I was reassessing my goals for the year and realised I wasn’t able to cross this one off the list. That day I tweeted Theo about my business. The following day I was able to put a BIG tick alongside this goal 🙌

I feel very privileged to be a part of this amazing group that is truly supportive. Theo and his team are actively involved and continue to make it a very special place for us to be💜 Almost every year since then I have attended the annual SBS event where we are treated to wonderful guest speakers such as & to name a few

I am really looking forward to attending the next SBS event, it's always a great to catch up with, Theo, the panel and other winners.

I left a corporate job as a Solicitor to start a Faux Floral business, many people thought I was making a big mistake but I knew it was something that I just had to do.

Maternity leave was coming to an end. I was due back to the office, back to the long hours, back to preparing for court hearings. As the time got nearer I felt a knot in the pit of my stomach.

So I gave myself 6 months.

In hindsight, an unrealistic amount of time, but what a driver it was. I love flowers, I created floral art as a way to de stress after a busy week. Could I really turn a passion into a business?

Faux florals meant that I didn’t need to go to early morning floral markets or worry about keeping the flowers looking fresh for as long as possible. With 2 young children this was important, so was being at the forefront of showing just how wonderful faux flowers can be. Being immensely fussy in my product choice has been key.

Fauxevermore has truly changed our lives, it has been part of our family for so long that my children can’t remember a time before it. Now my eldest daughter, with the same high expectations, she is a valued member of the team.

I have been able to be present for my family in a way that wouldn’t have been possible if I was working in a law firm.

Taking a huge leap of faith meant that I have been lucky to go to every school play, every music recital, parents evenings, read along days, various school trips and school fetes.

It has also allowed me to give back to my local community as a school governor and trustee and now part of a local charity providing hygiene care products to those in need.

Sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith & bank on yourself.

To all celebrating, we wish you a Happy Easter! 🐰

Thinking about those who aren't able to celebrate properly this year, of those in the holy land who are unable to live in peace.

Yesterday I went to a local land day event and heard a lady called May speak. She was born in Bethlehem, a Christian whose heritage goes back over 2000 years in the same land. She is inspirational, her words are a clear reminder of how communities used to live side by side. Recounting her history and what her family have endured and lost.

She still has family in Bethlehem, navigating daily check points to try and go about their day and has 1st hand information of what is happening in her homeland.

So as Easter is celebrated around the world it's seems poignant to remember those who live in the birthplace of Christianity are not able to celebrate freely.

Your wedding your way! It is always important for me to learn what a couple loves & find a way to incorporate it into their day.

This week sees the 1st wedding anniversary of M&G who married . Time really does fly.

Here I included cherry blossom, the couple’s favourite, red to symbolise the couples heritage and we reused floral displays through the day.

The couple invested in a bespoke arch which served as a backdrop to their marriage ceremony, their traditional tea ceremony, top table and as a place for guests to take selfies too. Everything is well thought out.

We believe that your wedding should represent who you are and what you love rather than a cookie cutter approach.

Our couples value our service, creativity and ethos. We aren’t for everyone but that’s ok, that’s the intention.

Working with likeminded couples is a strand in our success and making our couples feel like seen and heard in our creations is the icing on the cake.

I don’t value the success of Fauxevermore on the sheer volume of bookings, that isn’t important to me. Working with amazing select couples, creating a vision and making an impact is.
