But don't we so often get caught up in judgement and fear?
Treating ourselves unkindly, regretting things that have happened and scared of things that might happen. 'I should've done better'; 'I should be better.'
Let's offer ourselves some love and care.

Our busy minds want to keep going; to keep achieving, to keep talking, to keep reading, to keep thinking. To keep on the treadmill.
But our bodies and minds need a balance of activity and rest.
If we can give ourselves some moments to Relax, Reset and Recharge throughout the day, we can directly affect our physiology - shifting our nervous and hormonal systems, taking us out of stress and back into balance.
Making us feel better in ourselves and better for those around us.

How we feel can be directly influenced by our behaviours.
Trouble is, when we feel rubbish, we don't tend to do the helpful behaviours that would make us feel better and we end up staying stuck in our rubbish feelings.
In fact, often we go for unhelpful behaviours - the ones that take us further down the hole - like staying up late watching tv, social media, eating junk etc.
If we can muster up the motivation to choose a more helpful behaviour instead, we can directly affect the physiology in a positive way and in turn, feel good. Or at least better.

10 Tips to Help You Sleep Better at Night ๐ด
To get on the path towards good sleep, we need to get good routines going.
If we want to get good routines going, we'll need to prioritise good sleep.
Then we can plan our days and evenings around aiming for good sleep.
Humans are animals, just like dogs, whose systems like routine and certainty.
Our bodies and minds have circadian rhythms that operate on a 24 hour cycle with daytime for activity/rest and night time for sleep.
If we build routines to wind down and set the body and mind for sleep, then over time as we work in harmony with our circadian rhythms, we will find it easier to get to sleep, stay asleep and get good quality sleep.
Good sleep restores our energy batteries, our mind and body's healing and gets us ready to learn and enjoy life.

Knowing it's not easy to change habits just like that, we need to gently work with ourselves over time to improve our routines. Other important things get in the way (the dishes, tidying up, the kids, work, friends, old habits etc) and that's to be expected. We don't beat ourselves up over it, we learn more about what tends to get in the way and work out how to reorganise things and re-commit to building our sleep schedule.
Because if we don't take care of ourselves; our minds and bodies, our needs ๐ฑ who will? Self-care is not selfish. Our lives, our responsibility and care.
We get stronger, less anxious, less stressed.
Then we start loving life again AND we're better too for those around us.
Let's take care of our lives and learn to flourish ๐ฑ

When we don't get enough sleep, all sorts of physiological effects occur.
Which leads to a shift in how we feel during our day - not good.
We feel anxious, more stressed, less energy, crave refined carbs and sugar which can all lead again to a poor night's sleep.
This can end up with us in a cycle of rubbish days and rotten nights.
To break the cycle we need to change what we're doing - harder when we're feeling anxious, stressed, low in energy and eating refined carbs and sugar.
None of which is our fault - we didn't design the human body and all its needs.
But to change the cycle and enjoy our lives we have to start somewhere.
Remember, getting started with anything is always the hardest part. So make it small and build over time. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is any kind of change. But someone has to get started.
Pick any one -
๐ด Begin a meditation practice. There are lots of apps/ YouTube with free guided meditations. Try one out. Begin with 2 minutes a day. HeartMath can help actively shift the cortisol levels to help you feel better. Over time you change your body's habits of releasing cortisol and feeling stressed.
๐ด Practice the art of self-kindness and the ability to self-soothe. HeartMath, Kristen Neff - self-compassion, Rick Hanson are good places to start to help guide you.
