The 10th of October was mental health day as I reflect on this past summer, thereās one thing I didnāt get the chance to share that has stayed with me. It started as a simple idea during a conversation with Dom and Matt: we wanted to do something meaningful for menās mental health, a cause close to all our hearts. Whether through our own battles, watching those we care about struggle, or even losing loved ones to mental health issues, itās clear that this is a challenge many of us face, often in silence.
We decided to take action, and the response was beyond anything we could have imagined. Local musicians, DJs, and businesses rallied behind us, generously offering their time, talents, and support. The level of contribution and solidarity was overwhelming. It wasnāt just about raising Ā£1,557 though that was an incredible achievement it was about our community coming together to stand up for an issue thatās often overlooked. This event marked a big step forward for us, and weāre already thinking about how we can do it again, hopefully with an even greater impact.
But thereās a personal layer to this photo that I didnāt fully grasp at the time. While we were doing something positive, I was quietly battling stress, pressure with work and some difficult things in my personal life that I was unable to process or understand this had been building up inside me. I didnāt realize how much it was weighing me down, and over time, I found myself spiraling losing weight and unable to cope. I regret not reaching out sooner. Like many others, I thought I could manage it on my own was too proud to ask for help. Looking back, I wish Iād sought the support I needed, whether through friends or services like Mind, which exist for exactly these moments.
Sadly, I also know firsthand the heartache of losing people to mental health struggles. These experiences serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting one another and breaking the silence that surrounds mental health.
Thankfully, I was surrounded by incredible people who recognized what I was going through and lifted me up when I couldnāt do it for myself. With their help, Iāve been able to get back on my feet and continue working on what Iām passionate about creating a welcoming space where people can escape the stresses of life, even if just for a little while. A place to eat, drink, laugh, and enjoy the company of others in a safe, comfortable environment.
I also want to give a special thanks to my amazing team, who worked incredibly hard on the day to make the event such a success, and to my close friends Little Jon, Dan, and Ross who helped with the logistics. Without their support, the day wouldnāt have come together as smoothly as it did. Your hard work and dedication meant the world to me, and Iām truly grateful for everything you did.
So, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who supported us then, and who continue to support the pub and me. Whether itās through donations, attending events, or simply offering a kind word it all makes a difference. And to anyone out there who may be struggling in silence, please donāt hesitate to reach out. Thereās no shame in asking for help. Iāve learned that lesson firsthand.
Hereās to continuing the good work for ourselves and our community.

Katie has been a part of the Elm Tree since day one, and her absence is always felt when sheās not around. But when she walks back through the doors, it feels like everything falls back into place. Her cheeky grin and the sparkle in her eye instantly lift everyoneās spirits, bringing warmth to both staff and customers. With her gentle, calm demeanor, she has a way of making every customer feel right at home.
Katieās dedication shines through every weekend when sheās sprucing up the pub after a busy spell, leaving everything spotless and ready for the next rush. Sheās often found preparing on Saturdays, setting up for the evening crowd, Her love for the Elm Tree runs deep, and it's contagious.
Now that cheeky Vimto is on the menu, Katieās enthusiasm is impossible to miss itās even harder to keep her away! A fantastic team player and an even better friend, Katie is a true gem. Sheās not just a part of the team, sheās part of the heart and soul of the Elm Tree.
We are fully booked for lunch today but plenty of space for drinks and snacks. Come warm yourself by the fire happy Sunday everyone have a lovely day ā¤ļø xx
Nicole is the heart and soul of the pub, a barmaid and waitress who brings effortless charm and energy to every shift. With her infectious laugh and razor-sharp wit, sheās the life of the party, always quick with a joke or a clever comeback. As the former captain of the Elms Ladies Darts Team, her toughness is well-knownāsheās a fierce competitor with an unshakable confidence, both on the dartboard and behind the bar. Her banter is unmatched; sheāll go toe-to-toe with anyone, dishing out playful remarks that always leave everyone in stitches.
Like Addie, Nicole is also a devoted mum, and she effortlessly blends that nurturing role into her work. She looks after both the team and customers with the same care and attention, making the pub feel like home. Thereās a warmth to her thatās hard to ignore, but sheās not afraid to assert herself when needed. If you step out of line, Nicole, much like Addie, will give you a good-natured but firm telling-offāmany regulars can vouch for it, and they wouldnāt change a thing about her.
Nicoleās creative flair is another of her many talents. Whether it's organizing an event or decorating the pub for special occasions, sheās the first person everyone turns to. Her artistic eye transforms every space into something memorable, and sheās always ready to roll up her sleeves and dive into any project with enthusiasm. She has a natural talent for turning ideas into reality, making each event a hit.
Despite being the life of the pub, Nicole is a bit camera-shy. Itās rare to catch her in a photo, so while we donāt have one to show off, her unforgettable presence makes up for it. She doesnāt need to be on camera to be a starāher personality shines bright enough.
More than a colleague, Nicole is a cherished friend and an indispensable member of the team. Her boundless energy, loyalty, and genuine care for everyone around her make her someone the entire pubāstaff and customers alikeādeeply appreciate. She brings people together and makes the pub a lively, welcoming, and vibrant place to be.

Steph is one of those people who make an immediate impact. We were short-staffed one weekend, and as usual, things were getting hectic. Thatās when Sadie, with a knowing smile, said, āI know someone!ā Before I knew it, Steph was walking through the door, and from the moment she arrived, she fit right in like sheād always been part of the team. Sadie was spot-on from the word go. Steph brought a unique combination of charm and hard workāsometimes getting away murder , but never without putting in the effort. Sheās the heartbeat of the place, and itās impossible to imagine The Elm without her.
More than just her work ethic, Steph is the life and soul of any room she steps into. Her energy is contagious, and her love for the job shines through in everything she does. Itās not just about doing the workāSteph genuinely cares about the people she looks after, and that care goes beyond the call of duty. Like all of us here at The Elm, she consistently goes the extra mile, but her touch is often something special.
This past summer, for example, she took it upon herself to completely redecorate the garden. What started as a simple idea turned into a full-fledged project, and Steph turned the space into a beautiful oasis for everyone to enjoy. Itās now a perfect spot for drinks and food, thanks to her eye for detail and creative flair. The transformation was nothing short of fantastic.
One of Stephās key roles is managing the cellar, which she does alongside me. She takes pride in keeping everything spotless, ensuring the beer stays fresh, and maintaining a steady flow on busy nights. The cellar is always in top condition under her care. Sheās also about to gain her personal license, an achievement sheās worked hard for and one that will open new doors for her.
But Steph doesnāt just stop at her job responsibilitiesāsheās deeply involved in shaping our ideas and events. Whether itās coming up with new themes or adding her own spark to existing plans, she has a way of electrifying everything she touches. Her creative input brings our events to life, and sheās always ready with a bright idea or a fresh perspective.
On a personal note, Steph is so much more than a colleagueāsheās a true friend. Sheās kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about everyone around her. Her warmth and positive energy make her someone you want to be around, whether it's during a busy shift or at a casual gathering. Steph, weāre all so grateful for everything you doāyou make The Elm a better place, both as a teammate and as a friend. Thank you for being you!

Harriet, fondly known as the Elm Trees' Cameron Diaz, is the kind of person who lights up a room simply by walking into it. Like a breeze that carries a new energy, one day she arrivedāand just like that, she stayed, becoming an integral part of the team. It didnāt take long for Harriet to prove herself; with her warm, approachable demeanor and natural ability to bring people together, she swiftly earned the trust and respect of her teammates. Crew Spotlight!
Addie, the steadfast second in command at the Elm Tree, has been the pub's backbone for 12 years. With a tough exterior, cool demeanor, and a work ethic that's hard to rival, sheās earned her place as an indispensable part of the team. Her presence is like gravityāsteady, unshakable, and felt even when sheās not physically there. From the early morning preparations to the late-night cleanups, Addie is at the fiery heart of the pub's daily life, ensuring everything flows seamlessly.
She steps in at a momentās notice, tackling any challenge with confidence, often going beyond whatās expected. Whether sheās managing schedules, handling unexpected situations, or just checking in on her team, her influence is ever-present. But more than just a leader, Addie is a trusted friend to everyone she works with, offering support and guidance both professionally and personally. The Elm Tree wouldnāt be the same without herāsheās the kind of person who quietly keeps everything and everyone together, making sure the place feels like home.
