The twin towns of Folkestone and Etaples-sur-Mer further their friendship through this association and have news of forthcoming events promoting them.
The twinning association was founded by our Chairman with in the help from the Folkestone Town Council but as an independent body. Our twin town is Etaples-sur-Mer situated in Northern France on the estuary of the River Canche, in the department of Pas de Calais. It has much in common with Folkestone in that it is a coastal town with a small fishing community. It was an important town during the F
irst World War. Whilst Folkestone was the embarkation point for soldiers crossing the Channel to serve with Allied forces, Etaples was the site of a major hospital looking after the wounded. There is already a well established Friendship Link between the two towns with yearly exchange visits on Remembrance Day. The aims of the association are to promote links between schools, clubs, societies and individuals Folkestone, and encourage understanding of each others communites. Membership is open to all who live in Folkestone, and all are welcome. Membership fees are £6.00 for single adults and £10.00 for a family.
