Crew Counselling and Therapy.

Providing confidential support, therapy and counselling for yacht crew and professional private staff. One to One and via internet calling . Worldwide . 24/7. Please send a private message and I will contact you as soon as it is possible.

After a 25 year career on boats plus a couple of years out as an estate/ house manager I realised that there was a noticeable lack of understanding and professional help in the industry when it came to supporting crew who were finding it difficult to address their mental health concerns. Depression, bereavement, stress anxiety etc were all ignored because of the belief that crew had to maintain an image of being super resilliant and unphased by the demands of the industry . There are help- lines, and some land based support for seafarers in an emergency, plus some self appointed life coaches offering everything from career advice to inner peace, but this is not the same a structured support from a professional who is trained and qualified in Counselling/Psychotherapy from a recognised university or college and who belongs to a regulating organisation following a industry code of ethics and receiving regular supervision from an accredited supervisor . I have a degree in Addiction therapy from The University of Bath, and am completing training in general counselling from Kent adult education, and I am a member of both FDAP, and The BACP. regulatory bodies. I have also completed training and certifiction in internet and telephone counselling https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/

The issue of substance misuse within the industry was also rarely addressed well,. Crew were given the opportunity to resign or were fired , the underlying issue wasn't addressed and the cycle continued. However there is a better solution , I offer totally confidential therapy and interventions, or if a crew member as disclosed their issue with the captain , I can manage their case from the beginning,,and with the involvement of the captain and management company a crew member can attend a suitable facility for an agreed period , and return to their position on board with minimum disruption to the boat and a better outcome for the crew member and recieve follow up care and relapse prevention help for as long as needed.

If there is an occasion whereby I feel that your needs would be better addressed by someone better equipped than myself, ie. different modalities, specialist areas , language etc. I have a network of other professionals to whom I can refer you. Please get in touch should you need more information or if you would like to make an appointment for an intro session.
