And the lounge, before & after. The lovely clients were relocating to Brighton and brought a lot of furniture with them. Integrating this was great fun. I gave the relatively plain room a real feature by creating a focal point for this flat wall, painting a calming green and installing a fireplace and TV over. This meant the remaining floor space was freed up.

The Brighton project in a bit more detail, in this lovely little kitchen, I bought in copper tones and some great accessories from Dunelm. Don’t be afraid to go for larger scale and play with heights and textures, it’s always a winning combination.

This was a project in Brighton from a couple of years ago….🥰 complete interior design, including a fab shopping trip to get all the accessories… great fun!

Designing bathrooms is very precise work, and I love to put together an elegant palette of materials that works hard... it's ok to mix patterns and textures, that's how the scheme comes alive and is multi dimensional.

Midlands Tiling & Bathrooms, Plumbing and heating, another one coming your way soon!!

I realise that I haven't been as active on Facebook as on other platforms, so that's all going to change! I've got lots of wonderful before and after photos to share, and many exciting projects in the pipeline!

After, Before , During! A recent project, where the small ensuite was removed and a walk in wardrobe instated. Every square cm of space was used, and the finishes carefully selected to give a light and airy feel in a very small space. But it works perfectly!

Fantastic meeting of design and property professionals at the inaugural Dorridge Design Day today - hosted at the Forrest Hotel by Solus Tiles - great to be invited along and to see some of the fantastic local businesses that supported it as well.

What is your favourite season of the year?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was feeling ever so inspired by nature yet again with all the jewel colours and strong colour tones when I threw this little collection together!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The 'DNA' of the scheme is of course the stong geometric shaped fabric on the top right and once this key piece of your puzzle is in place, it's plain sailing thereon in!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
ALL of the colours drawn in to the rest of the scheme are in this VIP bit of fabric!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With it's fresh teal, teaming it with gold, ochre, and amber tones, and balanced by a neutral, this has autumnal feels but actually is just a very handsome scheme for any time of the year!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Suited to a grown up bedroom, a study, a living room, even a kitchen or conservatory, this has the versatility to go anywhere and no one could ever accuse it of being BORING!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mixing textures like satin and velvet with metals and timbers, a gleam of coloured glass and mirror and this becomes tactile too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when pulling your scheme together, find your 'hero' fabric first, make it easy on yourself by incorporating several colours within it, and then it's just a case of pulling in your accents, and getting the all important balance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a fantastic Monday!

Dulux yesterday unveiled their 2023 Colour of the Year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is called 'Wild Wonder' and on first looks, is quite a middle of the road sort of tone that works with pretty much every colour you can put alongside it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dulux describe it as soft gold with hints of green inspired by fresh seed pods and harvest grain. Whilst that is all well and good, I was sort of hoping for something a little more dramatic!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The people at Dulux say this," Wild Wonder is a positive, natural tone that, by connecting us with the natural world, can help us feel better in our homes. As well as understanding the value of nature more keenly, with climate change becoming a reality for all of us, we also feel the urgency of reconnecting with nature and the necessity of working with rather than against it. As people search for support, connection, inspiration and balance in the world today, they're diving into the wonders of the natural world to find it."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They've also given us 4 gorgeous colour palettes that work beautifully with it, and now I am getting a bit more excited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Swipe through, they do show the true versatility of this colour and some good scheme inspiration.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So whilst I do 'like' this colour, and especially the Buzz & Lush palette ideas, it's not really breaking the mould.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am looking forward to what Pantone have to unveil as their Colour of the Year 2023, usually they are wildly different colours and their 'blurb' is always fun to read too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Watch this space!

Time is in that suspended state between the loss of a loved one and the ceremony where you say goodbye, a limbo that is not a nice place to be. These feelings are usually only for those we have loved and lost first hand, yet I know everyone is feeling this sadness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When something huge happens in our lives, we sometimes struggle to fully believe it. The loss of our beloved Queen, so swiftly and almost unexpectedly, has rocked my world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Like most adults this lady was 'always there' in my life. Just like our families. Even though sense prevails and you know it cannot be so, I thought she'd be there forever. She was timeless.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Despite her many years and unfailing public service, this lady has hardly put a foot wrong. Her kindness, compassion, and that wicked twinkle and sense of humour always came though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God Bless you Ma'am. Rest in Peace. With Philip now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I found this gorgeous artwork whilst searching for something that could grace our homes and still work in a modern interior, as a memory of her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So simple and yet rich, its painted flowers speak of a bygone era, but the format works beautifully. This is by Agent X, on www.artrepublic.com. Their work often juxtaposes popular culture with fashion and technology, this is a great example of that.

Most days, after walking my golden Labrador in the winter, he looks like a giant ombre fluff ball, the closer to the ground the darker the tone! He doesn't like having half a bath every time!! So I've really loved being able to get him walked in the frozen early mornings this last week, and he comes back as clean as he left!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I just couldn't help but get a bit addicted to the early morning sunrise and the sparkling leaves.... the fresh colours at the beginning of a day are a the best stimulation to appreciate the opportunities of the hours ahead.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nature just delivers, day after day, and I love it! Not only does nature lead the way in showing how colours work together, but the shapes and textures as well. Clever lady! I use this inspiration a lot in my work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Check out my series of Colour Palettes by Nature, which shows how to create the perfect selection of colours using nature as your guide.

Wishing you a terrific Tuesday!

What does Christmas mean to you? I thought this lovely picture pretty much sums it up!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fir trees, satsumas, candy canes, fairy lights, brown paper and twine, silky ribbons and sparkly garlands, Christmas in a nutshell!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A friend told me a lovely idea for Christmas gifts, especially for children..... it could be a great guide anyway!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Something you want,
Something you need,
Something to wear, and
Something to read.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All too often Christmas is so excessive and whilst I do love love love glitter and decoration all round, with as many twinkly lights as possible, the simple items in this photograph are so evocative of the essence of Christmas, and keeping it simple.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a super Sunday!

Considering a bit of an interiors overhaul in 2022? This image is a fantastic example of how a strong colour and pattern don't need to make a room dark. Look at the reflection going on and the way the pattern optically changes along the way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Often when I show my clients a statement wall covering they will be cautious about including it into a scheme. I love to push the boundaries a bit when I'm called into help clients with interior design.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They'll often say that's why they need me! No more beige!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The best thing to do when considering a new look using wall covering like this is to pin up some samples and live with them for a few days, through morning light, to daylight, to lamplight and even candlelight or streetlight!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Usually it will make you super impatient to get decorating, as the effect of a papered room versus just paint is so instant and impactful.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Balancing the scheme starting with our wallpaper,
and paint, then different textures such as timbers, metals, glass and fabrics, weaves some of our interior design web. Add in the furniture and lighting styles, artwork and accessories and we're almost there. Soft furnishings and window treatments complete our spinning!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a spectacular Sunday!

The Spring & Summer Colours of 2022 from the Pantone Institute really show an eclectic and broad spectrum of colour and tone, that will have something that is attractive for most tastes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The trend report features the 'London Colour Palette' of 10 standout colours, as well as the 'Core Classics' of five, versatile, season-less hues straight from the runway, all of which can be applied to interiors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ranging from pastel tones, to jewel tones, to earthy tones, to almost neon, I think this really encapsulates everyones mood of 'just let us live our lives and no boundaries to hold us back anymore please!!'
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pantone themselves say these are "Colours that celebrate our desire to break the boundaries and satisfy our fervent need for playful creativity."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Swipe to see their fantastic individual names and the 'biography' about each one.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pulling out a few colours at a time to make into their own schemes will be really easy! For example taking Bubblegum, Potpourri and Orchid Bloom and popping in a dash of Super Sonic or Fragile Sprout in to contrast, or for a calmer scheme take Popcorn with Coffee Quartz and Sudan Brown, and add a dash of Coral Rose for an autumnal cosier vibe.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So expect to see these colours everywhere very soon!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Something fun for the weekend - but why not everyday?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Interior Design as a subject may sound a bit stiff and starchy but actually it is all about creating the canvas to live our best lives by. A bit like being a set designer for people's lives at times!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when I stumbled across this lovely chandelier, it brought a smile to my face and most people would be hard pushed not to appreciate the humour and fun intent behind it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also it solves many a design dilemma by allowing you to choose many a colour to co-ordinate into a scheme that had this little number as a focal point!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course this would look beautiful in a little girl's bedroom, but just as much it could work in a dining room or master bedroom for adults! Yes!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So before you dismiss something that you actually really like because it may not conform to what you think a 'grown up' should have in their home, take a second look!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Go on!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a fabulous Friday.

I love, love, love the drama of this image. The over scaled flowers and their light and shade create such a strong backdrop to this also quite lovely credenza.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Using wall murals, which are large pictures or artworks printed onto rolls of wallpaper, sized accordingly to fit your wall, is a very quick way to grab the headlines in interiors. In just an hour or two you could transform your space. This is the great thing about wallpaper in general and these murals in particular.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Readily available in so many styles to suit, or you can even use your own photograph or artwork, for extra kudos.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the great thing is, when you get bored of it, it is just a scrapper or paint brush away from change. No over commitment or huge cost investment required.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another win win!

Have a terrific Thursday!

A little flat lay for Thursday totally inspired by the autumn colours that are gracing the trees and leaves at the moment.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I do love to put together a little fabrics board like this, having received many dozens of new fabrics, and wallpapers from sourcing at Decorex and Chelsea Harbour in the recent design season.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The DNA of the scheme is the cosy little cream fabric next to the glass chips - with little blurs of all the ochre, greens, amber and sage colours running through, (swipe to see a close up) - it is soooo cosy and could be a cushion, or even upholstery, as it has 40,000 double rubs, which is the test applied to see how durable something is. Anything over 15,000 would be OK for a domestic chair, so this is just fine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mixing multiple patterns, large and small, the movement of the various elements is curvy and carefree, and shots of darker green and sunshine yellow wake up the scheme and keep it modern. Mixing textures of the silky blind fabric with the boucle, then a velvet or two, and other upholstery weights, teamed with some dark timber, mirror and brass to keep the warmth, and a black and cream rug to ground the palette, all bring a balance to the scheme.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'd be tempted to bring in an accent painted wall of the deep red/brown tone "Arras" from Little Greene, alongside the cute cream and gold wallpaper from Casamance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can totally see this little scheme in a cosy living room or bedroom, or family area.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Back to real work now!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a terrific Thursday!

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is happening as we speak. We all have such high hopes now that these leaders can work together to help bring around real change in the environmental disaster facing us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the first time ever, many more millions of us have woken up to realise it all all our joint responsibilities to help save our beautiful planet, and the focus is sharper than it has ever been.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nature is crying out for help, even being as steadfast and resilient as it can be, the cracks are literally showing through. The world needs our help, or our children, and grandchildren are facing some bleak times.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To honour COP26 I just wanted to share these beautiful decanters, from Spain, that are made from recycled glass. They are even more beautiful because they are living their 2nd life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If we can build in ways in our homes to make greener living the only choice, from the ground up, from the energy our homes consume, to how we recycle, make smart choices on the products we consume and use, one little change at a time will add up to a massive shift and it will make a difference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Some rooms are so large, they can be really difficult to achieve the balance of creating a cosy and workable space for everyday family life in.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take this living room for example, it is about 10 metres x 6 metres and the focal point is a very large fireplace. If you place the furniture at the boundary walls of the room you would require a loudspeaker to converse with anyone else in the room!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pulling the furniture away from the walls and creating various zones of interest in a room this size is the only way to really unite the size of the room with the tasks it needs to perform.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also suggested pushing out the chimney breast wall and building in some storage and display either side here to really anchor the centre point of the space and make a big deal of it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This gives even more reason to group furniture here for watching TV or family chill out time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the windows we can afford to place gorgeous full length curtains that won't get blocked or squashed by a sofa backing onto them, and this brings extra elegance to the space.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The temptation is often to keep piling in the furniture in a room this size - but it needs to breathe and have circulation space, so less is more - you can always add later on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The joy of taking time on space planning and being able to produce quick 3D visuals of the room really benefits the design process from the get go.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a magical Monday!

If you want a back drop to make your jaw drop then this is it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wall covering is not just all about wallpaper these days, panels, murals, different materials and textures are all at the interior designers fingertips to deploy in making your home stunning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For example this one here is printed on a textured metallic base. The digital print captures the different shades and oxidised colours. With 3 drops making up a panoramic wall panel of up to 210cm across this is like an artwork installation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Other finishes include cork, stone clippings, woven fabrics, wool and silks, grasscloths, the list goes on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes they are more expensive than a roll of wallpaper usually, but it is a bit like splashing out on any designer item - it will make you feel fantastic, you won't be buying one every year, once in place it will last until your next refurb, or even beyond.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This stunner is from Casamance, an uber chic French company and is called Azurite Blanc/Gris..... also available as the name suggests in a gorgeous Azure blue and green colour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wishing you a terrific Thursday!

If you are a renter or a little unsure about committing to a wallpaper or coloured paint long term, this could be a great solution for you!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a mural that is really large in scale, and can be stuck on, peeled off, re sited or removed!! Swipe to see it in situ...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are not digging the calming splurges of colour shown here, this idea is available in a whole array of different styles and options, there are many on the market place now, so you can create a look for a room and then change it in an afternoon if you so desire! No mess, no residue, no expensive tools.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All that is required is a little patience, oh and just watch out for air bubbles!!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!!

The roadmap is looking good, bit by bit lockdown is easing. Being able to see and hug friends again has been fantastic! It’s been non stop this week catching up with lots of my nearest & dearest with lots more of that to come.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our homes have sustained us through the long cold winter lockdown and many of us have done work on where we live to become where we work, rest and play!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Adding in colour to rooms is a game changer and really enhances our interiors. Colour can have a really positive impact on our experience of a place.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take hues of green as a calming colour for work spaces. Splashes of jewel tones in our living areas to stimulate and enliven, cause conversation and vibrancy. Or neutrals for a chill out zone with lots of texture for cosy calmness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour; the worst that can happen is you’ll change it!! The chances are though you’ll love it!!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Live life in colour, it’s too short to just do black & white!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy Saturday!

Good design is about finding a bridge between your hopes and what is able to be achieved; that still makes you go 'ahhhhh' every time you close the front door behind you.

So getting the bones of your layout together is so important. All you need is a scrap of paper, a pencil, a tape measure and off you go! Often it is the space around the objects and furniture that makes the design work, letting things breathe, and being realistic about the circulation space required when you have more than just your immediate family around you!

Space planning is the single most important part of the design journey to get right... it's like the foundations of the project! If you build your whole scheme on a wobbly layout it may not deliver.

This enforced hibernation period has been really interesting in the way that people's focus is on their home more than ever. It will be interesting to see as lockdown eases, how the home translates into the next phase. No doubt we'll all be rushing out to lunch and dinner dates and the beer gardens again, but now that we have realised what good buddies we are with our houses, much more time may still be sought out here.

I have been so busy with my clients all saying the same thing, I want to love this space, I never really noticed it before, or took it for granted. Now I want to get it just the way I want it, and not wait until I am about to move to make it right!!

Have a Magical Monday!

Creativity comes in so many different forms, and the patience and skill required to make this little canvas of exquisite texture and colour. What shines from it are the hours and intention absorbed into creating a little piece of unique art.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The artist who created this is Jennifer Lamontagne, and her back ground is as a trained oil painter, so the experience and love of colour and texture has really converted through to a very different medium.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's unlikely someone who didn't love what they do would have the will and desire to create this, it reminds me of a coral reef! Adding beads and metallic threads, knots and varying stitch sizes, it's so three dimensional!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This could become framed artwork, or the centre piece of a cushion or wallhanging. The colours could inspire a complete colour scheme or just pick up on pops of colour using sparingly around a design.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a superb Saturday!
