Pukka Ponies Equine Rescue, Kent
Pukka Ponies Equine Rescue is a small registered charity based in Maidstone. We offer sanctuary, rescue, rehabilitation & rehoming for all equines in need.
Newest in little Millie needed a duplicate passport as hers had been lost over the years, thanks to the fantastic fundraising from Little Warden we were able to get the lovely Harriet from Bell Equine to do this, Millie has already started a little assessment training for therapy work so it’s a possibility she will be doing therapy visits alongside Maggie in the future if she proves to be suitable!
Last few hours for reduced entry fee…. Classes for everyone! Looks like it’s going to be a fab busy show, over 75 entries already 😄

Remember Cracker, the orphan foal found Oct 2022, dumped covered in paint & just a few weeks old?
Little Cracker had awful ALD + 2 hernias
& has been through a long process of rehabilitation… from remedial shoeing at 6 months, he’s been on a strict diet & exercise routine to give him the best possible chance of a future…
Well he’s now rising 2 and has been quietly growing from strength to strength & today was the day that one set of X-rays would define his future, we are so so pleased to say he’s absolutely smashed his recovery. He’s 80% there with his legs, and the decision was made to put him through surgery for his umbilical hernia, his inguinal hernia & also castrate him… this procedure did require general anaesthetic & a full surgery procedure complete with an overnight stay at the vets… and a little £1200 bill for the pleasure.
Cracker still has a bit more of the journey ahead of him, with one more small surgical procedure on his hock next year… but the future is looking bright for this little lad finally!!
If you’re able to please donate and/or share his appeal we would hugely appreciate it!

Still in search of any information leading to the location of these two ponies; the Shetland is a gelding, he is very dark bay (can look black at a glance) and walks with a noticeable limp as he has mechanical lameness in his shoulder, he also has different shape front feet as a result of this. He would be no use for driving, riding or breeding… we don’t understand why he’s been taken? He is owned by Pukka Ponies & is registered stolen. The chestnut is old, with medical conditions, she would also be very little use to anyone, she is privately owned but is very missed by her owners.
Anyone with any information whatsoever can PM or call us (07543111373) in confidence with regards to the whereabouts of these ponies. Please be aware they may not be together anymore.
URGENT - SHARES NEEDED

Let’s make these well known enough to ensure they get home safely!!!
Anyone with info can call me on 07543111373 - even in middle of night, please call.

Tyson is a Pukka Pony, he was a very damaged soul & landed himself the most wonderful home who understand his quirks and have given him a purpose in life.
Unfortunately the bank holiday weekend has rocketed the costs for his care, and with no consideration for someone’s financial situation the vets demands have left Tysons adopted family in a bit of a pickle.
If you are able to help, please do!

A few years ago someone kindly donated a huge amount of hand knitted fly veils…. We have tirelessly tried to sell these at tack sales etc but with little to no interest, but when I found out a friend was off to Gambia to help the working horses out there I thought what a fab use for them so off 30 of them went (along with a few other items from our second hand shop) - here’s some of the beautiful Gambian horses modelling their new fly veils, and with so many sent it meant they all got to have one each 🥰
CAN YOU BUY A BALE FOR JUST £1?
We have a kind supplier offering small hay bales to the rescue for just £1 each, and would like to stock up with as many as we can! Could you donate to buy a bale, or even a few?

Many thanks 🦄
We currently have a selection of horses & ponies looking for their forever homes, if you live in Kent/South East & have a Pukka Pony shape space please get in touch! Ridden/Projects/Companions all available.
He’s still got a long way to go, but Cracker was feeling the first day of spring yesterday 🤣🙈 he’s learning some terrible habits off these naughty little Shetlands!
FUNDING APPEAL - CRACKER
Cracker was found abandoned - completely alone at the end of October, under 10 weeks old and suffering from significant leg defects. Initial assessment with our vets showed that Cracker's bones were aligned correctly and he should gradually "straighten up" as his body grew stronger... unfortunately he's growing too quickly and is now needing considerable treatment to help straighten and support his legs throughout this critical part of his growth.
Please if you can donate anything towards his vet care it would be hugely appreciated, donations can be made via PayPal, Bank Transfer or Cheque (details below)
PayPal: [email protected]
Bank Transfer: Pukka Ponies Equine Rescue - Account no: 79852545 / Sort Code: 09-01-28

Thank you Dog Smart for your ongoing support, it’s hugely appreciated. Merry Christmas to all your paws from all our hooves 🐴 🐶 💕
Huge thanks to Little Warden for sponsoring this chaps Castration last month. It’s been a busy couple of months for us with 5 castrated, they will be looking for new homes very soon ;)

Aiofe came to the rescue last year, she had a placement for a few months but found herself back at the rescue through no fault of her own earlier this year. As she had been through a few changes we reunited her with a couple of buddies and she stayed on our summer loan scheme (whereby a volunteer pays towards her costs in return for riding, it helps settle & bring on the horses and prepares them for adoption in the future). Aiofe had a wonderful mother/daughter share who adored her and gave her a purpose, unfortunately a couple of months later she had some unexplained issues with one of her feet, the issue turned out to be a deep rooted abscess within the fetlock joint. Unfortunately the infection had severely affected the joint, combined with the loss of joint fluid and the presence of sepsis the foot had little to no chance of recovery (and under the advise of our lovely vets) we made the sad decision to have Aiofe euthanised.
Aiofe had a call out, and then a day later, an admission to the clinic so there is a significant bill to be paid - any donations to help with this would be hugely appreciated.

Huge thanks to RTB Equine Therapies for coming out today. The gorgeous Apollo had a once over, and some in hand exercises to work on which will help him strengthen his weak hind end… it was a super huge achievement him allowing Becky to give him a full once over - this lad has come so far!
Little got a once over and we hope can be brought back into some gentle ridden work in the future, and Aiofe had a session focussing on a historic injury on her hind end which causes her to stand a little wonky!
All 3 thoroughly enjoyed their sessions, but the best bit for me was that while we were doing Apollos session we were chatting about the fact that I’ve never known him to roll, and rarely if ever lie down…. Well a couple of hours after his session I saw him rolling!! 🖤

We have very recently welcomed a couple of new faces - welcome to Oakley and Acer. Little Acer was in a bad way on arrival to us, and has required considerable support to help through initial rehab. Both babies were riddled with worms and lice, and generally in appalling condition.
Huge thanks goes out to everyone who has supported them, from local residents & supporters donating towards Oakley’s Castration to the lovely team at Little Warden who kindly sponsored wormers & others essentials for the rescues. The babies were lucky enough to land themselves a visit from The Horsebox Spa too! Little Acer felt good as new after a very thorough bubble bath to get that coat clean and free from muck & grime.
There’s even a plant sale going on with supporters purchasing things to grow in exchange for donations towards their Saracen Level-Grow Mix feed.
⚠️IMPORTANT NEWS ⚠️
The Highway Code is being updated from end of January 2022 to help protect vulnerable road users.
These updates to the rules aim to protect the most vulnerable road users. Creating a hierarchy of users, including pedestrians, particularly children, older or disabled people, cyclists, motorcyclists, and horse riders.
With regards to passing horses, road users must:
🐴 pass horses (including horse drawn vehicles) under 10mph
🐴 give a 2m clearance when passing, and if this is not possible it will be the law to wait until it is clear to do so.
Thank you for passing us wide and slow- it does matter, it keeps us all safe 👏👏👏
