Not diagnosing a child doesn't mean they won't notice they're different. It just means that instead of thinking
"I'm struggling because I'm Autistic/ADHD/have anxiety, depression, schizophrenia", they will just conclude that they are struggling because they are stupid, weak, annoying, unlovable etc

Hi! My names Amylou! I'm 26 years old and have a degree in Education and SEN. I have experience working in schools as a cover supervisor with relevant SEN and TA experience.

Having a SEN consultant at the simple answer of a "Hello..." can be crucial in allowing a child to have their necessary needs met and reach their full educational potential๐Ÿฉท

A significant part of the person centered approach; a child's thoughts, feelings and ambitions must be considered.

I did supply at a school this week and worked closely with children on the spectrum and with learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

The way we work at is a more modern SEN Approach. I am not about to raise my voice at a child. I will always ask them to voice their concerns.

This week I had several students thank me for my approach.

"Can you stay till I finish school?"
"You are the only teacher that actually listens and cares"

I experienced girls with dyslexia who were told to copy off a whiteboard. If only the teacher considered his cursive handwriting was unclear. If only it was considered the children couldnt see on a white surface.

What did I say to these children who had obvious tears and stress in their eyes? "Speak to your parents about this." One girl told me it only got better when her dad came and advocated for her. But this was one parent in a school of 500 children. Imagine if multiple parents did? There could be a necessary change for schools to consider the student prior to paperwork and parental involvement. Just maybe.

Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy is a condition not many women know about.

It can be a problem in your liver or in your bile ducts. Bile that can't flow leaks into your bloodstream and backs up into your organs, causing inflammation. This then causes symptoms such as itching (no rash), dark urine, jaundice and much more.

In my first pregnancy, I went 35/36 weeks without realising the itching was an issue. It was a facebook post actually that made me tell my consultant.

Most women don't get symptoms till 20 weeks pregnant or some consultants wont test till around then! The test is a simple blood test!

All women with cholestasis have to give birth before 38 weeks, typically through induction or c-section.

Treatment varies across hospitals but in terms of myself I had to attend our local anti-natal clinic 3 times a week to monitor the baby's heartbeat, and take tablets called Urso which helps lower bile acid!

Once Charles was born (failed induction/emergency c-section) I was told if he was born any later, we would of lost him (born at 38 weeks exactly). This isn't my way of scaring anyone, but it was definitely a relief I had told someone i had itching symptoms.

I had similar symptoms in my second pregnancy (you have cholestasis once, you are more likely to have it in future one) and thankfully didnt have cholestasis, just hormone imbalance itching.

Who can you talk to about symptoms?
โ€ข GP
โ€ข Midwife
โ€ข Antenatal Consultant

My daughter has now been born๐Ÿ’“ First post, first hello ๐Ÿ‘‹

The story begins when my niece and nephew were going through the Autistic Pathway and EHCP process, and I saw the injustice received through the system.

Especially when my son started moving into education with speech delays and possible learning difficulties and the fight I have had to take outside of University time.

I graduate from my degree in Education and SEN (Inclusive) Studies this April and wanted to share my knowledge and offer support, hoping to develop into consultancy and charity work.

So come along on the journey with me. Follow me, say hi and check out my future posts coming soon ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿก

๐Ÿ“ข We have received the positive news today that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) have agreed to review parts of their guideline on .

๐Ÿ“ This review will include improving diagnosis, surgical management, and surgery where fertility is a priority. NICE has also recognised the need for more research into pain management and mental well-being.

๐Ÿ™Œ This is a great step forward and we look forward to working with NICE to ensure improved diagnosis and care.
But weโ€™re not stopping there; we will be reviewing what NICE have said and planning campaigns to bring about further change to support the needs of the endometriosis community.

๐Ÿ’› A huge thank you to everyone that joined us in campaigning for change, your support continues to make a difference to those living with endometriosis.
