I love my Oslo wool socks from *ta so much that, of course, being made from wool they do wear and they were in need of a darn. I followed the great little darning video on their website (I’ve attached a link below to their Care for Socks page and if you scroll down a little you will be able to open the video).

Thank you to (they sell it in lots of colours) for my darning wool. It was a lovely way to spend a mindful hour and it took me back to my weaving days with the great local weaver and artist .yule from . I do miss my weaving days and I can tell from my darning that I need lots more practice getting things straight but overall I am rather pleased with it for a first attempt. I have also discovered my old room name plate from the 70s. Honestly do not know how that has reappeared in an old box but here it is. They were so popular in the 70s used to love mine! Hopefully the video will inspire you to get darning but, if not, new Oslo socks from this great Japanese brand are all now back in stock in an array of beautiful colours. *ta have been making quality socks since the 1950s (Kutsush*ta means socks in Japanese) and I love selling and wearing these!!
Busy getting all the newly ordered stock on display….never sure quite how everything fits in as I have a tinsy tiny space but it goes in 😂. Thank you for these lovely hot water bottle covers and lavender eye masks all beautifully made here in the UK

Perfect ☀️☀️☀️☀️day for opening the new Nourish bowls and mugs from Musango. Another great ceramic brand I love working with and the bold Candy stripe designs are the new kids on the block! Always lovely to start getting the spring/summer colours in finally and Turmeric is the perfect cheerful colour to have your favourite cuppa in ❤️They’re designed here in the UK by the very talented Emma the founder of Musango and then they are beautifully made in Portugal (who make excellent pottery 👏🇵🇹) 🇬🇧
Trade shows all now nearly finished for me for Spring 2024 and as usual I am blown away by how many super talented creatives are out there! 👏Saw some really great inspiring brands that use the very best natural materials in sustainable and eco friendly ways. I am always very excited to visit the shows and I am even more excited when newness arrives in store. Swipe to see some of the newness that’s going to be arriving. It’s always good as well to see the lovely suppliers with whom I have been working for over 5 years now (where did that time go!!) who always have something new to show. I come away feeling very inspired which is really good as there is only me in this little business so it is always welcome to get out there and meet people face to face. I find it is always good to physically see and touch things as well. I find myself touching things a lot when I like them (particular woolly things 🐑🤣) and talking of woolly things, I have found a blanket supplier who I loved and who fits in so well with my brand. I have been looking for blankets for a while and so, of course, these will be in store and online soon
January is always a little quiet at Bill & Edna so taken some time off to tick off a bucket list item of seeing the Northern Lights in Norway 🇳🇴and despite one of the worst storms in the country for 30 years as you can see if you swipe left thanks to a very tenacious guide and nature being kind to us we saw them ❤️!! Thank you Tromso (and Oslo) for an amazing holiday experienceand thank you Scandi hotel group for gorgeous hotels (with amazing breakfasts!) One thing I can never resist looking out for now I have my little shop is checking out all of the local homeware shops and Scandinavia really does have some of the best and love it when I find brands for sale that I stock and I always have to take some photos! .agents
A very belated Happy New Year to all but we all took advantage of an extended break here at Betty’s in Ashbourne (decorating, spring cleaning and planning so we all kept busy though!). Took advantage of a bit of time to visit to see the Gabrielle Chanel exhibition which was one of the best exhibitions I have seen. Incredible designer and an incredible female…hard to believe some of her designs are nearly 100 years old and so beautifully crafted. It was a great day out with my lovely friend thank you V & A 👏
We’re all busy getting ready for our Open Evening tonight!! 🎄🎄We’re open till 7 and the Lantern Procession starts at 6.30…..it’s a brilliant event with lots of great lanterns to see and well worth a visit. Lots of festive goodies and food and drinks here as well. I’ll be running discounts on the night but anyone who cannot make it in person can order online with the code OPENEVENING2023 for 10% off
******STOCKING FILLERS****** Perfect little gifts for those stockings and all in store and online!🎄🎄🎁 .agents *ta
Loving these cushions from !! They are available in store after they arrived Thursday and will be featuring in the next Money for Nothing series due out in Spring 2024. Always love ❤️ to see the things that Sarah makes and these cushions are real statement pieces…..DM me if you would like more information or photos
Came across this photo from 2018 when I first opened inside the foyer of ……made me smile to see how little I had back then. Quite different now……swipe to see photos taken last week. Think I might actually have too much stuff now!! 😂It really has been a rollercoaster ride these last 5 years but it so great to be a little part of the Betty’s story. Love being there…I have been very lucky to have great support from all the Betty’s staff. It’s been brilliant getting back to being creative again and taking part in the great sewing workshops run by Bettys Sewing Box and its been great to taste all the delicious food from 😋😋. So many customers remark on what a great creative space Betty’s is……we are well worth a visit!!
Took photo of new Sophie Home eco cotton knit cushions in shop today and realised they match the flip flops rather well 🤣
NEW BRAND!! Really pleased to be stocking the lovely Neves Bees range….Neve decided age 9 she wanted to start keeping bees and now makes a range of great body products from her own beeswax…great story, lovely products all beautifully packaged. Well done Neve and Neves Mum Julie 👏👏very excited to welcome you to Bill & Edna #
Very excited waiting for Elton ❤️
It’s lovely to get photos from happy customers…….the ever popular Tinware mugs in all their lovely colours are always really popular and the pea green shown here is certainly one of the best sellers!! Thank you for taking the trouble to send me a photo of one of your mugs with a very nice looking coffee in it ❤️These mugs are actually made from ceramic but cleverly made by .uk to perfectly mimic vintage enamel mugs
Very excited to be welcoming new ceramics to the Bill & Edna range!! Beautifully hand crafted in Portugal in gorgeous colours and glazes that create multi colour surfaces with undertones making each one unique….it’s always hard to choose new ranges as I could quite literally order everything but I have reined myself in (for the time being!) and gone for these great bowls and deep plates in Seaweed and Fig (even the names are great). These are statements pieces that are all unique and designed to be with you forever and they’ll be in store and online soon #
About Bill & Edna
Bill & Edna were my grandparents. Bill loved nature and pottering in his garden; Edna loved sewing and being creative. This love of all things natural and creative has stayed with me and our retail space, Bill & Edna, aims to reflect this in a range of carefully chosen homeware and giftware items.
We focus on selling things that have been creatively designed and are a little different and so we try to source from small independent suppliers and individual artists and craftspeople that are able to produce things that not only have a quality both in design and workmanship, but also use natural materials where possible. It also means that we can be as sure as possible that the products we sell have been made in a responsible and sustainable way, often using traditional skills and crafts that could otherwise be forgotten.
Bill was a hoarder always believing everything had a re-use and so, in a nod to him and to the environment, we endeavour where possible to use as many recycled/re-used products as possible and we will be actively looking to increase this range over time.
