Kirsten Bailey, a former Medical Support Officer on her first deployment in Morocco.

“We’ve been able to really connect with the community and meet their needs. Being able to provide proper tents for people living in makeshift shelters has been quite phenomenal. It was truly humbling to be in Morocco and to see first-hand where the money is going, to see the difference it is making. We simply wouldn’t have been able to do all this without donations.”

REACT would like to say a big thank you to the Veterans' Foundation for their generous support to fund the training of veterans such as Kirsten. This allows us to leverage the distinctive skills of the veteran community, transforming them into exceptional humanitarian volunteers ready to respond to disasters like the September 2023 Morocco earthquake.

Responders are on their way back from Kherson and Zaporizhzya in Ukraine after providing incident management training for 92 people who work and volunteer for local organisations, including Українська освітня платформа, Myrnenebo, Червоний Хрест України Caritas and Open Heart. These essential and resilient groups provide support for the communities and families they serve in the face of conflict and as another harsh and unforgiving winter approaches.

With the conflict raging less than 2km away, REACT teams are in Kherson and Zaporizhzya to deliver potentially lifesaving incident management training to our partner organisations Українська освітня платформа and Myrnenebo. The training includes a focus on trauma medicine and learning how to maintain an airway and arrest a catastrophic bleed.

We are continuing to monitor the evolving situation in the Middle East and we remain focused on supporting the most vulnerable and helping those hardest to reach. Our special thanks to REACT Responder Chris Rose, who has been travelling in the Middle East and has supported us on the ground.

Responder Bruce put his REACT International Responder training to the test while deployed in response to the Morocco earthquake. He found himself applying lots of elements of the course in real life while supporting communities in the High Atlas Mountains.

From vehicle moves to hot seat training and working closely with local people, it was all applicable. He even found the tough hiking on the course mirrored reality when blocked roads meant the teams in Morocco had to carry equipment on foot to reach remote communities.

We'd like to say thank you to Veterans' Foundation, who have provided REACT with funding to support the cost of training veterans like Bruce. With their help, we're able to take the unique skills of the veteran community and harness them to create first-class humanitarian volunteers.

Dean Campbell, a recent REACT Flood Responder course graduate, shares the profound impact of the training he received. The Serve On instructors were incredible - warm, helpful, and exceptionally professional. They made complex training accessible, always ready to clarify doubts and offer in-depth explanations.

This training wasn't just educational; it was a transformative experience that equipped me with the knowledge and skills to make a real difference in flood-affected communities.

REACT Responders David Harrington and Matt Ladbrook recently returned from an 8-day deployment to Ukraine. The team's main objectives included connecting REACT's local partners with the UN, enabling them to source vital funding and support.

Matt, who is an experienced GP, provided bespoke emergency first aid training for Українська освітня платформа and Myrnenebo. Their volunteers continue to provide essential support for communities living close to the frontline. As another harsh winter approaches, the Responders also delivered food, cookers and power banks to some remote communities just 7km from the frontline.

As the world marks the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction ( ), REACT is excited to announce a partnership agreement with Taskforce Kiwi in New Zealand. Our organisations worked alongside each other during the clean-up operation following Cyclone Gabrielle earlier this year, which devastated parts of the North Island.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by REACT’s Toby Wicks and TK’s National Director, Richard Adams. Both are excited about the positive impact this collaboration will have at home and abroad, as our volunteers prepare, deploy and work together for the benefit of others.

REACT Responder Matt Ladbrook has been providing essential medical training for UEP frontline workers in Ukraine. Українська освітня платформа is a trusted partner of REACT and their volunteers have been providing vital support, including countless numbers of hot meals, for communities in areas of high risk throughout the conflict.

Matt, who is an experienced GP, provided a 3-hour program tailored to the needs of the group that included a structured approach to trauma casualty. Drawing on current international good practice, the volunteers had ample opportunity to learn hands-on techniques that could be used in real-life situations.

A REACT liaison team are en route to Ukraine today, to continue supporting the many people still affected by the ongoing conflict. There are still an estimated 5.1 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ukraine and communities close to the frontline are a particular concern.

The Responders will be providing specific help for some of REACT’s trusted partner organisations, including the Ukraine Education Platform (UEP) as they seek formal recognition by the UN ONHA. This will enable them to obtain vital funding, enabling them to help more people as the country approaches another bleak winter.
