It's been a week since Inception Art Show came down. It truly is one of my favourite art events of the year. I love the camaraderie between the artists and the lovely chats with the visitors (you get a truly diverse range of visitors too). Here are more install shots of my Reliquary pieces.

It will be a couple of months before they see the light of day again but they are available from my studio in Edinburgh.

I have the honour to be part of the curating team on this exhibition. It is a wonderful opportunity for SSA members and a wonderful link with the Great Tapestry of Scotland.

SSA is delighted to present an opportunity for SSA Members to exhibit work in The Christopher Boyd Gallery at Old Gala House with the compelling theme of “Threads”. The exhibition aims to explore the diverse and intricate connections that weave through the fabric of human experience, fostering a dialogue between artists and viewers alike.

The theme “Threads” serves as a metaphor for the interconnectedness of ideas, cultures, and emotions that form the rich tapestry of our lives. A significant source of inspiration for this exhibition is ‘The Great Tapestry of Scotland’, which is housed in its own building in Galashiels; a monumental work of art that vividly depicts the country’s history and heritage.

We invite SSA Members to draw parallels between the themes explored in the tapestry and those in the exhibition.

The Great Tapestry of Scotland beautifully captures the threads of history, culture, and identity that run through the country. Our artists may draw inspiration from this commemorative work, exploring similar themes of heritage, connection, and the interwoven narratives that define our shared human experience.

Dalkeith Country Park

It was install day today for -art-show. It is going to be an amazing exhibition and a really good day out for people lucky enough to visit. Tickets are £4 but that is such a bargain for everything you can do here. I've just had a lovely day myself.

JOIN ME AT INCEPTION ART SHOW || The exhibition returns to Dalkeith Palace from 3rd – 12th May 2024. This year offers an extended programme and beautifully curated collection of sculptors, artists, photographers and painters. Over 10 days art lovers will have access to artists and their work with an inspiring additional programmer of Palace tours, an online charity auction and an exciting Family Day featuring workshops and demonstrations for all ages.

 

With a focus on contemporary art and sales, Inception Art Show promises an enriching experience for art enthusiasts. This year, 35 modern and contemporary artists will take over Dalkeith Palace, offering visitors the opportunity to engage with the artists and their collections.

 

Events include a Family Day, online auction for our charity partner My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Dalkeith Palace Tours.

 

The programme also features an online charity auction, which opens on 24th April, raising funds for My Name’5 Doddie. Inception is open from 10am - 4pm daily. Reliquary - Blue Carpenter Bee 🐝 💙

I love this one, smaller than the others at 30cm x 30cm and contains an actual Blue Bee (yes they do exist).

He is made to look like a blue patterned porcelain sculpture.

He will be going to Inception opening on the 3rd May.

We love them but they really need to be seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated. Luckily you can find them in Kelso from the 15th to 17th March in all their shimmering, gilded glory.

RELIQUARY-MILONS SWORDTAIL

A new 3d piece in the Reliquary series honouring future bio-diversity loss.

She is at my wonderful framer, ( ) now getting her glad rags on in time for on 14th March.

This is a sculpture I made exactly 30 years ago! It is about 85cm high, modelled in clay then cast in plaster and finished with graphite. It still looks amazing hanging on the wall of my friend's house.

I WILL get back to making sculpture again soon.

A recently completed commission for
I loved working on the transparent folds and copper hair. She is over a metre tall and should be a very striking piece in the bedroom it's designed for.

Reliquary - Lady's Slipper Orchid

A new piece, still on the easel. She contains a tiny leaf cutter bee in a glass dome where her heart would be. I am thinking about adding some butterflies to her veil.

BAF is back and we can't wait. New work on the easel to be seen first in Kelso.

RELIQUARY

A new drawing in graphite, beeswax, monasterial blue and gold leaf.
Based on C12th carvings that held sacred relics. My reliquary holds future relics of things we are losing but should be held sacred; water from a melting iceberg, a rare gothic Moth and so on. The items are held in a cupboard made from the body of a woman opening her chest! So much to unpack there.

Do you like?

Work in progress and the start of a new project. 'Reliquary' will explore the relics of all that we are losing in this time of climate change. It will hold these precious objects with a sense of reverence. This one, so far, holds an extinct 'Gothic Moth' and an iceberg from the Ilullisat Icefjord.
