With the massive outbreak of the Norovirus that is currently circulating our schools at the minute it is extremely important that each and everyone of us do our part to help prevent the spread of this very nasty and highly contagious sickness.

Symptoms can come on very suddenly after being infected and can last anywhere from 24-48 hours, however, can leave you feeling out of sorts for anything up to a week.

If you or anyone in your household start to show any symptoms of

👉 feeling sick
👉 aches and pains
👉 high temperature of 38C or above
👉 being sick ie. vomiting
👉 diarrhoea

It is very important that you

👉 try to contain the infection as best as possible
👉 wash your hands thoroughly and regularly throughout the day
ESPECIALLY AFTER BEING SICK OR USING THE TOILET!!!
👉 do not go to work or send kids to school for a minimum of 48 hours after the symptoms have passed
👉 do not share food or drinking bottles with anyone
👉 after sickness has passed clean down all surfaces with a bleach based cleaner as the virus can live on a surface for several days.

Unfortunately there is no cure for “the bug” and very little we can do to rush recovery other than staying hydrated throughout to replace the bodily fluids we are losing. Adults are ok to drink fruit juice but try to avoid giving these to children as it can make the diarrhoea worse and if you feel the need to eat something try and only eat soup, this will help with hydration and replaces salts lost through vomiting.

I was thinking of putting a list of all the AED (defibrillators) locations and access timings together for ballymena and the surrounding area.

Knowing where the closest AED is to you in an emergency could put a cardiac arrests victims chance of survival up dramatically.

I can get a list from Nias I think but I will have to seek permission from them first if anyone knows of any location where one can be found please comment or send me a Dm and I will get all the details of it.

I haven’t posted on this for awhile because I’ve quite busy training plus been fully focused on our website.

Today finishes off the last day of a Three day Level 3 First Aid at Work course for Cookstown Textile Recyclers. Very interesting 3 days for me with a group of very switched on and very very keen individuals making it an absolute pleasure for me to train. I like to think I learn a little myself with every course but with this one I genuinely learnt a lot including a little Russian...can’t be bad to that!!

On Sunday I had the pleasure of taking this absolutely amazing group on young individuals through our Mini Medics course. Good part of the day I was completely sidetracked with somersaults, backflips and aerial cartwheels....for those of you that do not know what an aerial cartwheel is it’s a cartwheel with no hands!!!
